[Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay] The Holy Maiden's Expo Highlight in Fate/Grand Order

That joke about the "country girl" versus the "Holy Maiden" is actually rooted in my deeper understanding of her character. At the convention, I shot this Fate/Grand Order Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay set, with Master Kujo handling the photography.

For the costume, I went with the classic black sailor uniform version. The cropped top paired with a red bow tie and white stripe accents preserves the uniform look while visually flattering body proportions. The short white wig combined with her distinctive half-face headpiece always delivers a cool, imposing presence in a crowd. Beyond the top and skirt, the real highlight was the black over-the-knee socks—revealing the absolute territory to lengthen the legs without being over-the-top, perfectly matching the character's sharp aesthetic.

For props, I prepared a long-staffed flag with black patterns on a white base. This flag played a huge role in the shoot. Master Kujo used it as a foreground framing element, utilizing a wide aperture to blur the convention hall's ceiling lights and bustling crowds into soft bokeh. This technique made the subject pop beautifully, and the flowing lines of the fluttering flag broke up any stiffness, adding a dynamic, candid feel. During the shoot, we experimented with several poses—like hoisting the flag high or flashing a peace sign. In the upper-body close-ups, light was focused directly on the face to accentuate the red eyeshadow and porcelain-fair skin tone.

My favorite shot is actually the third full-body photo: centered and cleanly framed, gripping the flag staff while looking straight into the lens, with the lines of the black stockings displayed clearly—balancing both the character's powerful aura and a full look at the outfit. Post-processing focused on cool color grading, turning the messy convention environment into an atmospheric background. Light skin retouching was applied to complement the red lips and focused gaze, creating a cool, glamorous look tinged with melancholy and mystery.

Convention venues are always packed with foot traffic, so securing a relatively quiet hallway corner to shoot this set took serious effort. Under such chaotic ambient lighting, maintaining shadow detail while balancing facial highlights truly tests a photographer's control. Master Kujo gave precise posing directions—how to grip the flagpole, exactly where to aim my gaze relative to the lens—ensuring detailed communication that resulted in this crisp, polished set.

Every time I cosplay this type of character, I connect more deeply with their tsundere nature and untamed spirit. While meeting fellow fans at conventions is always fun, walking away with a finished photoshoot like this makes the trip truly worthwhile.
