The convention photos from this Chengdu Anime Convention have finally been retouched! This set features Flandre Scarlet cosplay from Touhou Project, serving as my 2.0 version. Back during version 1.0, some details weren't executed properly, so this time I've truly made up for those past regrets in this Event photo delivery.

First, talking about the costume: Since I love sitting at home working the sewing machine, I decided to handcraft this entire outfit myself. A red-and-gold dress looks gorgeous, but making it is genuinely laborious. For fabric, I chose damask-patterned satin—not only did it need an elegant drape, but it also had to catch the convention hall lights beautifully. For that massive golden bow across the chest, I tested several types of stiff interfacing before achieving a structured look that wouldn't collapse. The most troublesome part was the skirt hem: a red base layer, multiple tiers of white lace trim in between, and a bottom layer of pink chiffon ruffles. To make the skirt sufficiently puffy, I wore a very large petticoat underneath; though walking around was a bit exhausting, twirling created a truly spectacular effect.

The wing prop on my back was another colossal undertaking. That curved black frame was adorned with diamond-shaped crystals in blue, purple, yellow, green, and orange; to capture that glistening, translucent texture, every single crystal was individually polished and glued. With so many hanging pieces, navigating the crowded Chengdu Anime Convention floor required extreme caution to avoid bumping into others or knocking pieces off. The little pink-haired plush doll cradled in my arms was also hand-sewn based on the character's traits, and holding it during shooting added wonderful depth to the overall composition.

For the wig and makeup, to stay faithful to the character, I selected a short golden curly bob, trimming the bangs for a long time to ensure they wouldn't obstruct my eyes on camera. The makeup focused primarily on the eyes, wearing red contact lenses paired with a slightly pale, porcelain base to achieve a delicate doll-like aesthetic. The ruffled lace trim along the edge of the white mob cap was also meticulously stitched by hand on my machine.

On the day of the convention, the hall was packed, and the lighting conditions were quite complex. To capture the tactile textures of this dress, the photographer tested multiple angles, ultimately using the circular ceiling lights of the venue as background bokeh, yielding immense atmospheric depth. I wore White stockings paired with red flat Mary Jane shoes; my feet definitely grew sore after standing for hours, but seeing the results in this Event photo delivery made every bit of effort worthwhile.

I had a wonderful time shooting these convention photos, with both costume and prop details clearly rendered before the lens. Moving forward, I plan to further refine the garment's patterning to make it lighter and easier to wear for upcoming outdoor shoots. That wraps up this share—I hope it offers some useful inspiration for fellow friends who love crafting their own cosplay costumes!
