For this Asuka Racing suit shoot, the pre-production focus centered primarily on faithfully replicating costume details and coordinating props. To align with the racing theme, I prepared a red long-sleeved athletic track jacket with white stripes running down both sleeves, accented on the chest by a yellow shield emblem and a black circular badge. To enhance depth and layering, I coordinated it with a red letter-printed cropped top and loose black cargo pants, finished on foot with red-and-white sneakers. The red baseball cap atop my head and the tricolor red-white-green checkered flag at my waist served as the signature touches of the styling—bearing black-and-white racing checkerboards and a yellow shield crest, creating immense visual impact as it billowed.
The shooting took place in a pure white studio, backed by a parked red sports car. The striking red-and-black color blocking of the garments set against the red vehicle body carved out sharp visual contrast against the white backdrop. To accentuate the subject within the studio, we dedicated careful thought to lighting: an off-axis key light struck from an oblique angle, which not only sculpted the facial contours with clarity, but also brought out the tactile sheen of both the car's leather interior and the costume fabrics. Avoiding rigid, monotonous standing poses, I designed an array of interactions with the streamlined contours of the sports car.
From leaning against the hood and resting a hand on the car body, to perching on the engine hood with legs crossed. To display the full allure of this Racing suit, I infused many dynamic elements into the posing—such as clasping hands behind my head to accentuate the waist and abs, or executing single-leg leaps while waving the checkered flag. Sourcing racing gloves and wearing an official credential lanyard added grounded realism, making the subject feel like a genuine racer or paddock race queen. One close-up frame made creative use of holding the red-and-white checkered flag in front of my body, leveraging foreground blur to construct deep spatial perspective.
During transitions between poses, I deliberately watched how body curves were presented. For instance, in the set with hands behind my head after removing the jacket, the red cropped top and the waist flag generated an assertive, striking sensuality; paired with the black cargo pants, it balanced trackside coolness with the sharp punch of 2D anime styling. The twin tails of the wig easily flew wild during dynamic movement, so after every jump or spin, I meticulously tidied the bangs and the curvature of the twin tails to preserve that crisp anime silhouette on camera.
For the shot showcasing the event credential, I slightly raised my eye-line to look directly into the lens with an air of confidence and fierce pride. Across the whole session, the physical weight of this wardrobe tested my stamina in the studio, especially with continuous squatting, leaning, and jumping that soaked the false collar in sweat. Yet seeing the red vehicle body, vivid flag, and crisp costume lines merge flawlessly across the monitor proved that every adjustment was well worth it. This styling not only captured the essence of the character, but also incorporated extensive motorsport-inspired details, marking a truly fulfilling and breakthrough shoot.
