The convention photos from the Chengdu WorldLine ACG Expo are finally retouched, so I'm rushing to share this Asuka styling with everyone.
Before executing this set, I debated quite a bit over the costume patterning. To faithfully capture this opulent court-style uniform in red, blue, and gold, I deliberately selected a substantial, heavy-draping deep-blue fabric for the cape, ensuring that the cascading folds behind me held a dimensional silhouette under the convention's natural light. The diagonal sash crossing the chest—featuring gold embroidery over a crimson base—was crafted with dense embroidery work, which, paired with a row of gilded buttons and golden fringe at the waist, created a tightly gathered visual focal point. To harmonize with the solemn knightly elegance of this attire, I accessorized with a petite tiara crown adorned with rubies.
For the makeup, I deliberately chose bright blue contact lenses to mirror her cool, faintly proud temperament from the original design. The orange-red twin-tail wig was teased for airy volume, with blunt-cut fringe trimmed cleanly. Keeping the foundation clean and luminous, I toned the eye makeup with cooler pigments and elongated the outer wings slightly without applying overly sweet blush, making it effortless to channel that detached, aloof gaze toward the lens.
The outdoor temperature at the convention that day was quite demanding; bundled within this layered outfit and long cape, traversing the venue from morning to evening worked up quite a sweat. Fortunately, the cape offered excellent wind resistance, and the outdoor natural lighting bounced off the deep-blue and crimson textiles with striking luster and tactile richness.
The prop sword held in hand carried noticeable heft as well: the blade was finished with a metallic silver coating detailed with gold filigree across the surface, anchored by an intricately crafted cruciform crossguard. To showcase this sword effectively, the photographer and I brainstormed various poses. Bracing the sword with one hand required arm tension for stability, while holding it horizontally across my chest with both hands demanded keeping the cape draping naturally. Thankfully, in the final retouched shots—whether standing in three-quarter profile with one hand on the hilt, or crossing my legs while planting the sword in front—the overall posture emerged exceptionally tall and commanding, perfectly aligning with this knightly aesthetic.
The skirt features an asymmetrical tiered construction, layering red, black, and white ruffled flounces edged with black lace, paired with black lace-up ankle boots that subtly flatter the leg contours. While this styling departs from the casual familiarity of a school uniform, walking across the convention floor with the skirt tiers and cape billowing with every movement radiated immense presence. Completing this convention shoot successfully made all the upfront preparation and physical exertion completely worthwhile.
