For this shoot, I specially traveled to a studio in Fuzhou, which is absolutely massive. The moment I walked in, I was awestruck by the entire wall of bookshelves. This set was designed with great care—the wooden stairs, vintage gramophone, and hardcover books in various colors are exactly what my ideal library looks like. This time, I chose a pink and purple toned Lolita dress with plenty of lace and ruffles. Combined with a large bonnet and a twin-tail wig, the overall atmosphere was instantly maxed out. The shoot was actually quite exhausting because I had to climb up and down to find the right angles while holding heavy books to maintain my poses. However, seeing the final results made it all worth it. The lighting in this scene was also quite sophisticated. The overhead lights and side lights worked beautifully together, capturing the sheer texture of the dress and the pearlescent sheen of the pearls. My personal favorite is the first shot where I'm sitting on the platform; the depth of the book wall in the background is remarkable, making me look petite while still highlighting the fine details of the costume. After finishing this shoot, I was completely drained of energy. I went home and heavily shut myself in for a whole month, savoring the vibe of each photo while editing them. Honestly, every time I do a cosplay, I run into various challenges—like the wig easily getting messy or the dress tripping me up. But being able to immerse myself in such a storytelling space and bring out the character's aura is highly fulfilling in itself. This time, I didn't try to recreate any specific character. Instead, I wanted to use this vintage Lolita dress style to evoke a connection with the universe of Touhou Project. The bookish charm and touch of mystery feel just right. I hope to come across more amazing real-scene studios in the future to capture more atmospheric pieces of cosplay photography.
