Just got the convention photos back from this exhibition, and those familiar fantasy Japanese-style elements are back. Cosplaying Yoto Hime from Onmyoji at the IJoy Expo, my biggest takeaway was that this gear is definitely not light.
Starting with the headpiece, the black top hat with red ropes and flowers immediately boosts the presence. But it means I have to watch the "height limit" in the hall. The wig is smooth but heavy; adjusting body-to-head proportions is key to maintaining that sharp look. The costume—a black combat suit with white lining and a striking blue waistband—is the visual focus, paired with gray-black streamers and a yellow hem, giving it a dynamic beauty when moving. The thick red-rope wooden clogs are great for height and accuracy, but testing for core strength.
The signature long sword is much heavier than it looks. The flame effect in Fig 1 looks fiery, but in reality, it required holding the weight while maintaining a battle pose. My arms were aching during the shoot, but the result is sharp, showcasing the blade's edge.
The shoot was set in the steel structure of the IJoy Expo. The photographer used dry ice to create a mist. The industrial cold background clashed with the bright red, yellow, and blue costume, creating a mysterious atmosphere as if the character crossed dimensions into reality.
Fig 3 is a casual shot. Standing for hours in clogs, I sat on a silver suitcase, and the photographer captured this casual, confident pose—a sharp contrast to the aggressive standing poses.
The whole process was a Hardcore cosplay experience—from preparation to communication. Though exhausting, seeing the final Anime-style photography makes it worth it. Hope these Convention photos leave a cool mark for Onmyoji's Yoto Hime.
