This shoot didn't chase excessive flamboyance; instead, I wanted to capture the classical and mysterious atmosphere inherent to this look. From makeup to the set, the entire concept revolved around the visual theme of "Red and Black." I chose a vivid red wig that catches natural luster under top light. To prevent the pure red hair cosplay from looking monotonous, I added a black diamond chain headpiece, which echoed the black gemstone on the choker. The eye makeup is deep and striking, focusing on eyeliner to convey a cold yet lazy vibe, fitting perfectly with the Gothic maid outfit attributes.
The costume details were meticulously handled. The main black fabric has a subtle sheen like satin, creating beautiful textures in dark lighting when hit by light. The wide cuffs feature white ruffles and white sleeves, a classic design for classical outfits. The gold cufflinks, along with the collar featuring a metal base and complex chain decorations, added substance to the outfit, elevating it from a simple cute style to one imbued with a retro and dark temperament.
During the shoot, we set up a simple dark-toned scene. A pure black background pressed the surroundings into darkness, with cold-toned hard light hitting the character's front and side, highlighting silhouettes and details. The graininess in the frame was intentionally preserved in post-processing, even slightly enhanced, coupled with a slight film-like quality to better evoke the retro texture of this classical dark style. A golden double-door jewelry box and a classical white floral teacup were placed on a dark red velvet cloth, creating a steady visual foundation in the dark environment.
When shooting such Identity V cosplay, "restraint" is key. With so many elements already in the costume, poses don't need to be flashy; natural movements bring out the aura. Leaning on the chin or casting eyes down feels more narrative than exaggerated poses. The shoot was smooth, with the photographer capturing that sense of coldness and detachment I wanted. The final photos convey that classical Gothic vibe well, keeping the highlights controlled for a dark, cinematic quality.
