This black and gold Gothic Lolita custom design cosplay that we shot this time is actually a look I've been preparing for quite a while.
The overall color palette utilizes the very classic black and champagne gold. The top features a black stand-up collar design, and the stiff white oversized bow at the neckline not only brightens up the overall color scheme but also forms a great texture contrast with the golden tassel epaulets on the shoulders. The golden buttons arranged neatly on the front of the garment, combined with the matte texture of the black fabric, make the upper body look tall, straight, and sharp.
The design of the skirt hem is highly complex; a row of metallic short-sword-shaped hanging ornaments is used at the waist, which, together with the black satin ribbons and small golden bows, adds a tough metallic edge to this costume. Below that is a black puffy miniskirt, with multiple layers of champagne-colored semi-sheer tulle lace trim peeking out along the edges, creating a beautiful sense of layering when in motion. To match the volume of the skirt, the lower body is paired with diamond-patterned black tights and buckled chunky-heeled glossy leather shoes, visually elongating the leg lines.
To complement the Gothic design, long black lace gloves are worn on the arms, extending from the wrists to the forearms, adding a touch of magnificence. The slender black cane held in hand is the crowning accessory, giving my standing posture an even stronger aura. The long black cape at the back features gold piping along the edges, which can throw out a beautiful silhouette in coordination with hand movements.
The wig selected is a light blonde short hair piece, and the right side of the bangs was specially styled into a signature upward-curving black streak—a detail I find exceptionally striking. A black flower hair ornament is worn on the left side of the head, with dangling black ribbons fluttering in the wind. For the makeup, to balance the ethereal feel of anime with the dramatic nature of Gothic style, blue contact lenses were used, paired with upturned black eyeliner and a relatively vibrant rose-pink lip color, making the face look more three-dimensional and energetic in front of the lens.
A solid-color backdrop paper with a warm orange gradient effect was chosen for the shooting venue. This warm base color matches the black and gold costume surprisingly well. The golden accessories take on a bronze-like luster under this warm light, making the atmosphere of the frame incredibly rich. Between the two sets of poses, one leans toward static presentation, while the other creates a sense of motion by swinging the cane and cape, beautifully capturing the different states of the costume when limbs are extended.
The advantage of a custom design cosplay look lies in the ability to construct the overall visual presentation based on one's own aesthetics. From selecting hardware accessories to customizing the styling, and repeatedly testing the match between makeup and lighting, this process is tedious yet full of fun. This photoset is exactly the ideal state achieved after stacking all these details through professional cosplay photography.
