The moment the holy light poured down, the ambiance of the entire scene was instantly elevated to its peak (Atmospheric cosplay). Having previously shared some behind-the-scenes glimpses of this set, today I'm finally releasing the sorted final photos. For this shoot, we chose Yuanmeng Photo Studio; the Gothic cathedral set built by the studio was remarkably exquisite. The detailing on the Roman pillars and the translucency of the stained glass carried substantial presence, and the mirrored floor design was one of the souls of the entire setup, creating a perfectly symmetrical reflection of the subject and architecture.
This time, I cosplayed August von Parseval from Azur Lane (August von Parseval cosplay). When seeing this black-and-white outfit adorned with abundant lace ruffles and striped elements, one might initially mistake it for a regular dress or nun habit, but its tailoring is actually very elaborate—accentuating the character's body proportions while maintaining a sacred and elegant texture (incorporating a refined Stocking outfit aesthetic). To facilitate various kneeling and prayer postures, the layering of the skirt hem was handled just right. The horned headpiece structure and white lace headband also added distinct recognizability. I carefully combed and styled the long straight purple-blue wig multiple times in advance, investing considerable effort so that it would drape sleekly and smoothly on camera.
Regarding the posing, choosing a kneeling posture with clasped hands and downcast eyes was intended to align with the character's temperament and the scene's solemnity. In such a stately setting, overly dynamic movements would disrupt the visual serenity. For expression control, I tried to quiet my mind, conveying a devout, serene, yet subtly fragile emotion; instead of looking directly at the camera, my focus was on feeling the white sheer drapery falling from above and the warm light refracted through the stained glass.
Shiro F, the photographer responsible for this shoot, is a master of capturing light and shadow in Cosplay photography. The overall palette was enveloped in a cool blue-purple light, while the stained glass in the background cast a warm amber-orange glow—the collision of warm and cool tones created a powerful visual focal point, which is where the atmospheric depth of this set shines brightest. In handling the mirrored floor, low-angle framing ensured the subject's reflection was rendered sharp and complete, providing both flat composition and vertical spatial extension. The floral embellishments were also placed with precision; the blue-and-white flower clusters blended organically into the scene without overshadowing the main subject.
During post-processing, we avoided exaggerated filters, making slight adjustments to color temperature and contrast based on the original lighting to preserve the patterns of the glass, the texture of the garments, and the crisp definition of the hair strands. Many people wonder if the water puddle and mirror reflection effects were composite post-production; in reality, the studio floor was already prepped with this reflective base on set. By carefully controlling camera angles and highlight zones, we achieved satisfying reflections in-camera, allowing post-production to focus primarily on portrait retouching and cleaning up stray background details.
Shooting August von Parseval from Azur Lane was not merely completing a cosplay assignment, but a deeply immersive experience. Within such a lighting and scenic arrangement, the harmony between hair, makeup, costume, and environment was unified, making me feel as if I had truly stepped into a solemn and mystical sanctuary. In doing cosplay to this day, encountering a practical set with excellent lighting and reflective surfaces always multiplies the quality of output with half the effort. I'm thrilled to record this work, and deeply grateful for the studio's wonderful environment and the photographer's dedication—hoping to fully convey this cool-toned sacred serenity to everyone.
