This final photo set of Zenless Zone Zero Yidhari cosplay focuses on the combination of scene lighting and prop textures.
The wig is a golden bob paired with a custom black mini top hat and her iconic small antenna hair accessories. The main body of the costume features an asymmetrical black-and-white color-blocked design, with dark gold metal rings and textured decorations accenting the neckline and waist. The sleeves are large lantern sleeves. Overall, it has a cyber-industrial feel while retaining the character's magical and mysterious aura.
The core props are, of course, those purple translucent octopus tentacles. This time, we intentionally made a dripping slime texture effect. Under the purplish-red neon lights, this wet and translucent feeling is a huge plus. To pose them naturally wrapping around the body, bendable skeletons were used inside the props. Although adjusting the angles during the shoot took a lot of effort, I am very satisfied with the final tension presented.
The venue was selected as a studio with an industrial metal staircase and a graffiti wall. The red-purple neon lights and black steel frame background perfectly match the dangerous yet charming urban vibe of Zenless Zone Zero. The photographer's control over light and shadow was amazing; the high-contrast lighting made the reflections on the surface of the purple tentacles more obvious, highlighting the creepiness and mystery of the Cthulhu style for this Anime-style photography project.
During the shooting process, the slippery props combined with high heels indeed made it not very easy to maintain balance. I frequently needed to adjust my center of gravity to match the extension direction of the props. However, being able to express the character's confident and composed state in front of the lens is the key point this set of photos most wants to convey. For the makeup, a pale base makeup was specially done to pair with purple-toned eyeshadow, echoing the cool-toned atmosphere of an octopus girl.
This shooting experience was very fulfilling, and objectifying a beloved character along with alien elements is a challenging process. The moment I saw the final photos, all the early preparation and minor twists during the shoot turned into memories worth savoring.
