Braving the ferocious sea winds to complete this Wuthering Waves Cartethyia Cosplay set was a true trial of both endurance and patience.
Teaming up with my partner this time as Big and small photocards (Big and Small Cartethyia), packing our costumes and props alone filled two massive suitcases before setting off. The textiles used for these coordinates are quite unique: the blue-and-white ombré fabric shimmers like sunlit ripples on water, yet it demands precise lighting to show its true depth. To channel that ocean breeze and sacred grandeur, we explored varied camera perspectives around white geometric architecture by the sea. While Big and Small Cartethyia share a common visual lineage, their nuances are distinctly differentiated—from headpiece motifs and staff designs to the dimensional layering of black harness straps and cutouts. Styling the wigs also took great care, spending the previous evening trimming and heat-setting so their silhouette wouldn't unravel no matter how fiercely the coastal gusts blew. For the makeup, to harmonize with the elf ears (Elf cosplay), eye contours were deepened to give our gaze a sharper, piercing intensity.
The sunshine in Dalian was brilliant on shooting day; the light bathed us with radiant clarity, though squinting against the glare was a real struggle. To maintain disciplined facial expressions in character, we fired rapid bursts whenever clouds momentarily softened the sun. Beneath our feet were rigid concrete steps; balancing along the edges in high heels was genuinely nerve-wracking, all while keeping the flared skirts from whipping into our faces. My partner bore the brunt of holding that colossal staff steady in the wind—a huge drain on stamina—while I continually managed the heavy drape of my skirt to avoid harsh creases. During breathers, we constantly helped each other adjust stray wig fibers and reposition props. The photographer had an incredible eye for candid captures, freezing genuine moments as we ran lines or straightened each other's outfits between takes.
The greatest challenge of this Wuthering Waves cosplay set was establishing organic rapport and resonance between two figures within a single frame. We continually adjusted our seated stances on the steps, coordinating everything from line of sight to arm placement. Glancing toward my partner, I immersed myself in the lore, channeling that fateful connection transcending destiny. The wind carried a faint briny scent from the sea, and the sun felt warm against our bare shoulders, yet the rich textures rendered on camera were deeply gratifying. The specular glints off our props in natural sunlight and the sweeping arcs of the skirts billowing in the breeze simply cannot be replicated inside a studio.
The session stretched from afternoon until dusk. By wrap time, we were so exhausted we sat collapsed on the sidelines, clutching heavy coats and the staff. Drained as our bodies were, seeing the luminous, tension-filled frames previewed on the camera display made every stitch of mending, balancing, and sun exposure completely worthwhile.
