[Phoebe Cosplay] A Touch of Light and Shadow by the Summer Pool: Wuthering Waves Custom Design

This time, I shot a set of custom design cosplay for Phoebe from Wuthering Waves, going for a refreshing and breathable summer outing style. Since it's a custom design, I didn't stick strictly to her original in-game costume, but instead combined Phoebe's signature blonde hair and cross hair accessories with a semi-transparent white off-the-shoulder top featuring colorful star patterns.

The fabric of the top is very lightweight, perfect for an outdoor setting like this. For the bottom, I picked shorts with white lace edges and yellow drawstring cinches, creating a nice visual connection with her golden hair color. The black ribbon bow and blue cross hair accessories on the wig are the highlights of this look, drawing visual focus to the head. Wanting to express a lazy, carefree atmosphere, I kept the makeup light, focusing on a clear, translucent base.

The shoot took place by a high-rise rooftop summer pool. The weather that day was fantastic—a clear light blue sky with very few clouds and abundant sunlight. During shooting, we utilized natural overhead lighting to illuminate the subject; the star pattern on the top glowed nicely in the sunlight, giving it an airy texture. Shooting under harsh noon light was a bit challenging though, requiring constant angle adjustments to avoid harsh facial shadows, but fortunately, the final photos turned out exceptionally translucent, oozing summer vibes.

I chose a pose sitting on the edge of the gray stone tiles, one hand resting casually beside my leg and the other gently pulling the lace rim of my top, leaning my center of gravity slightly. Since the concept was barefoot, I placed my feet directly on the floor tiles. Even though it was an outdoor rooftop, the tiles were warmed by the sun, feeling surprisingly grounded to touch. The blue water in the pool reflected the sky, adding rich layers to the composition.

When taking these photos, I didn't intentionally try to replicate any specific movements, but rather relaxed and enjoyed the sunlight and breeze of the moment. In such an open space, with the wind blowing through the wig and sunlight falling on my shoulders and arms, capturing those spontaneous, natural moments was the most rewarding part. Whenever I shoot light custom design cosplay like this, I feel much less burdened than when wearing heavy armor, allowing me to express the character's demeanor more flexibly.

I didn't force myself to recreate a specific scene from the game this time; instead, I immersed myself into Phoebe's summer routine. Compared to formal studio shoots, doing a casual look under natural outdoor light actually demands more control over lighting and angles because there are many uncontrollable factors. Sometimes a gust of wind blowing up the wig or hemline accidentally captures a remarkably dynamic shot. The texture of this outfit is great, especially the off-the-shoulder cut, which smoothly highlights the lines of the neck and shoulders.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable shooting experience. From hair and accessories to outfit coordination, everything progressed around the theme of freshness and lightweight comfort. Rather than chasing heavy, extreme accuracy, I wanted to present how the character looks enjoying a relaxed summer outing. The water, blue sky, breeze, and long blonde hair combined to create a truly unique visual effect.

While organizing this set of photos, I also tried different post-processing ideas. Since the lighting itself was good enough, I didn't do too much color shifting in post, mostly warming up the color temperature slightly to match that intense yet gentle feel of sunlight. At the same time, I preserved some of the original sharpness so the wig strands and lace edges on the top remained crisp. This clean, bright tone fits the concept of a custom design cosplay perfectly.

Looking back at the shooting scene, it was actually windy on the rooftop, and I had to constantly adjust my wig and outfit between takes. There's always behind-the-scenes hard work in cosplay, but seeing the bright, sun-drenched state in the final images makes it all feel completely worth it. As an attempt at a character custom design, I'm thrilled to express certain traits of Phoebe in a summer style of my own interpretation.
