Shooting Carlotta's ball gown from Wuthering Waves this time, the most immediate impression was just how massive and heavy the dress truly is. The entire gown is anchored in a red-and-black palette: the outer crimson textile possesses a delicate inherent shimmer that scatters lovely, sparkling glints when spinning in radiant light. The upper bodice features a halter-neck, off-the-shoulder cut secured with black crisscross chest straps and accented at the center with a gem-textured ornamental clasp, flanked by black lace gloves and asymmetrically styled arm sleeves. The skirt volume on the bottom is truly dramatic, constructed across multiple tiers—the outer tier boasts crimson ruffled flounces accented with red bows, while the inner lining and borders feature black lace and pleats with an extensive train, demanding dynamic, sweeping movements just to get the fabric moving in motion.

For the wig, I selected dense, straight snow-white locks topped with a red bow hairpiece, paired with vibrant blue contact lenses. To align the styling with a grand ball ambiance, the makeup focused on deepening ocular contours to give the gaze sharper focus and intensity. While the wig fibers were silky smooth, they were prone to tangling in windy outdoor conditions, requiring constant combing before takes. For footwear, black strappy high heels were selected to balance both the gown's hemline height and walking mobility.

The foremost hurdle of this shoot lay in capturing kinetic motion. During static poses, the sheer volume and weight of the gown easily risked looking like an immovable mountain, which is why I repeated the spinning maneuver in Photo 3 multiple times. Flaring the skirt hem out into a full circular arc while keeping facial composure unflinching required intense core engagement—generating torque from the waist to whip the hemline outward while minding my foot placement so as not to trip over the heavy fabric. The photographer paired this with powerful side-rim backlighting; sunlight glancing across the white hair and red gown sculpted a luminous rim light, and given the high dynamic contrast in backlighting, we iteratively adjusted reflector positions to preserve shadow details in the folds of the dress.

The over-the-shoulder glance in Photo 1 was choreographed specifically to exhibit the back train and structural tiers: while appearing like a simple lateral turn, it actually required twisting my torso to its limit so both the back silhouette and the sweeping trail of the train could inhabit the frame simultaneously. The frontal standing pose in Photo 2 was comparatively straightforward, yet relied on a gust of wind to lift the long hair, preventing the composition from feeling static.

Overall, the multiple fabric layers of this ensemble perform remarkably under studio lighting and natural sunlight alike. Although wearing it was physically taxing, the resulting chromatic impact of the red-and-black contrast and the lighting textures made every bit of effort thoroughly worthwhile.
