[Laffey Cosplay] Azur Lane: Lazy Waterside Casual Snapshots

The event photos from Day 2 of the Firefly ACG Expo are finally organized! This time, I'm bringing you cosplay event photos of Laffey from Azur Lane.

In fact, before going to the convention, I had high expectations for this outfit's design. The blue-and-white sailor suit elements combined with an off-the-shoulder loose fit look exceptionally fresh under natural outdoor light. The shoot location was chosen along a riverbank outside the hall, with lush green vegetation and city high-rises on the opposite bank as the backdrop. The shimmering water paired with daytime diffused light fit Laffey's lazy yet softly cute character traits perfectly.

Across these four photos, I intentionally tried different poses and expressions. The hands-on-hips shot leaned toward a slightly cool and calm feeling; the candid shot with one leg lifted and arms open was about finding balance and playful vitality; while the close-up shot holding a strand of hair with one finger lightly touching my lips felt more capable of showcasing the character's effortless allure. Finally, sitting on the metal railing offered the most relaxed presentation, holding long white hair ribbons in both hands, with the plush white bunny-ear shoes on my feet blending seamlessly into the natural elements of the scene. The white over-the-knee socks paired with blue woven straps served as a great accent for daily wear, and the white character details on the straps looked very crisp under outdoor light.

Regarding styling details, I felt the most effort went into the blue bow on top of my head and the white twin-tail long hair. This hair color shows a subtle gradient in the sunlight, requiring me to smooth out the hair strands carefully beforehand. The overall outfit alternates in white and blue, with cute lace and stripe decorations along the collar edges. There are also several small highlights on the outfit, such as the mini carrot pendant at the neckline, the metal buckle at the waist, and the translucent blue ribbons on the skirt and sleeves. Especially when walking outdoors, these ribbons naturally dance in the wind, adding plenty of dynamic beauty to static photos.

There were quite a few fun moments during the shoot. Because the water was directly beneath the railing, keeping my balance while managing my facial expressions left me a bit flustered at times. Fortunately, the photographer was very patient, continuously providing positive feedback and adjusting angles to capture the most natural moments. Laffey as a character carries an effortless vibe, so I didn't force exaggerated expressions, instead trying to maintain a slightly sleepy, lazy demeanor. Sometimes the relaxed state flowing out naturally fits the character's core far better than forced poses.

At Firefly, you could see everyone's dedicated creations, and interacting with nearby cosplayers beyond shooting was super fun. Although it took a huge toll on my physical energy that day—light-colored wigs easily get frizzy outdoors, and heavy costumes make you want to sit down and rest immediately after moving around—seeing these event photos made all the preparation and sweat completely worth it. Looking at the photos allowed me to re-examine my body language, feeling that under different perspectives, the character's presence undergoes subtle shifts. That's the wonder of cosplay: we aren't 100% replicating a still image, but giving the character new vitality in real light and shadow. This outdoor cosplay photoshoot gave me a lot of takeaways, and I hope to create more satisfying works in the future.
