[Laffey cosplay] Azur Lane: Languid Commander at the Firefly ACG Expo

This time at the Firefly ACG Expo, a good portion of my focus went into preserving the props. First off was Laffey's iconic large mask; to avoid it getting bumped or scratched in the crowded hall, I specifically carried it in a large transparent plastic bag in my hand.

The outfit itself leans toward a lightweight design. The pink bell sleeves at the cuffs use relatively thin and breathable fabric, accented with black lace trim, making it comfortable to walk around the slightly stuffy indoor venue without feeling overburdened. The black bow at the neckline paired with a long white wig creates a very pleasant color contrast, maintaining excellent wearing comfort even after standing in long lines.

Many passing fans first noticed the giant transparent bag in my hand, and some even stopped to ask if the mask was handmade. In reality, the prop isn't particularly heavy; compared to physically weighty heavy-armor gear, this outfit offered far greater mobility and ease. The matching small plush charm dangling on my wrist was also very fun—its big eyes and smiling face matched the expression design on the mask perfectly. Creating both large and small forms of the same character element enhances visual recognition, making it very easy to break the ice during convention interactions.

As for my schedule after entering, I didn't rush to queue for popular artist booths, but rather wandered leisurely through the main exhibition area. When encountering cosplayers doing Roleplay of other Azur Lane characters, I couldn't help but admire the craftsmanship of their outfits, occasionally exchanging notes on tailors or prop makers. The overhead industrial lights in the venue cast a cool white tone, reflecting naturally on the wig, creating a lighting environment quite suitable for unedited raw shots in Convention photos.

Considering the high crowd movement at the convention, during moments between wearing a mask and taking a breath of fresh air, I needed to touch up my hair position every now and then. White wigs get messy easily when brushed against by crowds, so midway through, I found quieter corners to adjust my bangs and hair tips using the front phone camera. The hat worn on my head (though not captured in the frame) was actually fixed quite securely and barely tilted at all.

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the outcome, mainly because the details—from the black sleeve trim to the bowtie fabric—matched the character vibe I wanted to present in this Laffey cosplay. An added bonus of keeping the large mask in the bag was that light reflecting off the plastic bag created a semi-veiled mask effect, adding a charming contrast of mystery and cuteness. Walking and stopping in a noisy convention hall clad in this gear, completely immersed in my character state, is truly the most captivating aspect of Roleplay.
