This time I'm cosplaying Cissia from Zenless Zone Zero Cosplay. When I first got my hands on this costume, my immediate impression was how rich and varied the materials were. The pink halter top paired with the black glossy diamond-patterned corset delivers a powerful visual impact. To capture the character's rebellious yet languid vibe, I put a lot of effort into the styling and makeup.
Let's talk about the wig first. The golden-blonde twintails, complete with the antenna tuft on top and braided sections on the sides, required careful layering so it wouldn't look flat. The hair accessories featured black bows and white plush balls, adding a touch of playful girlish charm. To keep the wig from reflecting light too harshly under bright strobes, I used plenty of matte styling products, teasing out the volume layer by layer; styling the hair alone took over an hour.
As for makeup, the focus was on the eyes and lips. Reddish-brown contact lenses gave the gaze more depth, while the eyeshadow was generously blended, paired with the metal lip piercing right in the center of the lower lip, instantly nailing the character's personality. My nails were specially shaped into sharp, long pink talons echoing the color of the top, adding extra hand-posing details. To make sure the makeup held up under the intense heat of the studio lights, I used plenty of setting spray and kept the foundation light and translucent to preserve natural skin texture.
The costume's details are abundant. The black leather collar around the neck, the white ring-shaped chest ornament, and the gold zippers and studs along the waist combine to give the entire outfit incredible dimension. The arm sleeves are asymmetrical: one side features a white puffy sleeve spliced with a long black sleeve and a NEP S black wristband, while the other side is an off-the-shoulder design; this asymmetry is exceptionally eye-catching on camera. The leather corset offers a strong snug fit, requiring a deep breath just to button it up, but it's totally worth it for the waistline contour.
The lower half features a black glossy pleated mini skirt paired with asymmetric Stockings cosplay. One leg is styled in a solid black long tube sock with a metal ring and belt buckle thigh garter, while the other leg wears white diamond-mesh patterned stockings with black suspenders. This contrast between black and white, solid color and mesh, is ideal for highlighting leg lines. During the shoot, the photographer cleverly used a low-angle composition to make the proportions look even slimmer. The stocking materials displayed different sheens under the lens—the black portion leaned matte, while the white portion carried a faint pearlescent gleam, looking gorgeous.
The studio environment was dark, set against a metallic backdrop. The lighting relied heavily on rim contour lights, which perfectly carved out the silhouette while showcasing the reflective textures of the leather and glossy finishes. Since the costume already featured dense elements, I kept my poses relaxed—sitting with a slight forward lean, hands resting naturally, and a gaze carrying a hint of defiance that matched the styling's aesthetic.
When handling the long pole prop, I slightly adjusted my posture, turning sideways to make the waistline stand out more. The black patent leather produced strong specular highlights under the lights, so continuous light adjustments were necessary throughout the shoot to prevent overexposure and loss of detail. Overall, from the test fitting to the final shots, every aspect strove to capture the character's aura, and the ultimate visual impact is full of tension.
In pose choreography, I avoided overly complex postures, instead seeking natural moments of pause—such as a hand suspended mid-air or a slight backward lean—details that make the frames feel like candid capture moments rather than stiff stagings. Spinning the long pole prop in hand also added dynamic motion to the frames.
This photoshoot experience was fantastic, achieving every expected result from textile textures to lighting design. The heavy weight and layered depth of the full styling can truly only be felt once worn.
