[Rem cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition Convention photos - Image 1

Part of the Convention photos from the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition have finally been edited, so I'm posting this single landscape image first. Posting landscape photos on Xiaohongshu can be quite a hassle; mixing landscape and portrait formats makes the homepage layout look extremely strange, so this time I'm sharing the landscape Convention photos separately.

This time I'm cosplaying Rem, and trimming and styling the wig took a considerable amount of time. To recreate that natural gradient transition from bright blue at the crown to pale white at the tips, the wig underwent special dyeing and styling treatments. The signature hair ornaments on both sides and the crossed clips in front were all prepared in advance. Makeup-wise, I intensified the pink tones under and at the outer corners of the eyes, pairing them with contact lenses to make the gaze feel closer to the character's quiet, composed temperament.

For the costume, I chose the white dress featuring multiple layers of ruffles and lace borders, with the details around the neckline and skirt hem exhibiting great texture under the convention lights. What gave me the biggest headache was the pair of giant white feather wings on the back. Such bulky wing props are extremely heavy to wear, and the straps strained my shoulders until they ached. Moreover, while walking around the convention floor, I constantly had to watch out not to bump into passersby while keeping the wings fully expanded without collapsing—a true test of stamina and core strength.

The shooting time was chosen during the evening blue hour. The weather during those days at the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition was quite decent; after sunset, the sky turned a deep blue with wispy cloud streaks. In the background were the silhouettes of distant city architecture alongside a body of water. Since the ambient light had already grown dim, the photographer decisively used a flash for frontal fill lighting. The intense flash illuminated the subject in the foreground, the white dress, and the feather wings, creating a striking contrast of light and shadow against the deep blue night scenery. A gentle breeze blew by the water's edge, lifting the skirt hem and feathers, and the resulting effect was unexpectedly ethereal.

For the pose, I didn't do anything overly exaggerated. Rem as a character is relatively introverted, so I chose a sideways look-back pose, hands slightly raised with palms facing upward, as if feeling the wind or offering a gentle prayer. Since there is only a single landscape composition, the subject is positioned slightly off-center while leaving ample frame space on the right for the wing, allowing the feather textures to be fully displayed.

The biggest difference between Convention photos and studio shoots is the abundance of uncontrollable factors: you have to quickly find suitable angles in a limited space while avoiding the chaotic crowds in the background. Being able to capture this photo this time was truly a matter of favorable timing, geographic convenience, and harmony among people. Though doing cosplay is exhausting, seeing this final edited photo makes standing so long with those heavy wings completely worthwhile. Moving forward, I will continue preparing new characters and exploring different photography styles and scenes.
