[Yaoyao Cosplay] Nice to Meet You, I am Yaoyao

From deciding to portray Yaoyao from Genshin Impact to actually putting on the outfit, it took some time to prepare everything. Bringing the wig, costume, and a bunch of props to the convention floor this time, I can finally say a proper hello to everyone in front of the camera.

Let's talk about the details of this styling first. The wig features a light flaxen hair color with the signature braids and looped buns on both sides, topped with white bow hair accessories to stay as close as possible to the character's inherent cuteness. The outfit has rich layering, featuring a yellow-green and deep brown patchwork outer coat paired with puffy white lantern sleeves, reproducing that pastoral aura with Chinese-style elements. Half-finger gloves are worn on the hands, with red strings tied at the cuffs. The lower attire consists of shorts with lace borders, matched with white mid-calf boots. The black fluff and orange embellishments along the boot edges create a nice visual contrast. The overall breathability and mobility of the costume are decent, though carrying many props meant I had to adjust my center of gravity to execute natural poses.

In terms of props, that yellow long-eared bunny plush toy is absolutely adorable! It feels incredibly soft and fluffy, making it very easy to get into character while holding it during the shoot. The white radish prop placed by my feet and the woven bamboo basket beside me were both custom-matched for this character. The bamboo basket is also adorned with orange bows and red tassels, enriching the color palette of the entire frame. Moving these items from my residence to the venue to keep them intact definitely consumed a fair amount of physical energy.

Let's talk about the shooting environment on site. This time it was inside a large indoor exhibition hall, where the second floor featured a glass curtain wall, providing highly translucent natural light. The floor was made of marble, and its smooth reflective surface added a much better texture to the entire set of photos. Black softboxes and light stands were set up on site, and the professional lighting technician adjusted the source angles to make the facial contours and clothing folds look very three-dimensional. Little brother Maomao, as the photographer this time, very patiently captured many dynamic and static moments, giving plenty of compositional advice. Actually, the shooting process for this set of photos was quite interesting; because I was sitting on the ground covered with a white plush blanket, passing convention goers would occasionally look over out of curiosity, but being immersed in my own little world kept me from feeling too nervous.

When looking at the final photos, there was still a tiny bit of regret. Because things were quite rushed before the shoot, the manicure on my nails had a slight mismatch with Yaoyao's actual setting, causing a small OOC detail in the overall styling. I must apologize to the friends who follow this character; next time I go for an outdoor shoot, I will definitely handle the manicure to match the character design properly. However, in terms of overall makeup effects and costume coordination, this still achieved the recreation results I had expected. Especially those low-angle wide-angle shots, which beautifully coordinated the figure with the props on the ground, and the visual extension brought by the wide angle gave off a nice presence.

When taking these photos, my favorite poses were actually the ones holding the bunny plush or raising the mini cake. The posture of holding the miniature fruit cake upward with both hands elegantly showcases the character's vitality and innocent, romantic feel. There were also some other cosplayers shooting nearby; everyone displayed their love for the works within their respective characters, and this kind of mutual fellowship exchange among fans was truly delightful.

Recreating a character is not just about wearing the costumes and accessories; more importantly, it is about presenting a state that fits their personality in front of the lens. Although working in the studio for most of the day in thick clothing and boots was quite exhausting, seeing those relaxed and natural moments preserved in the final photos brings a great sense of accomplishment in itself. Attempting this cute character for the first time and being able to bring a bit of visual freshness to the friends who follow me makes it feel entirely worth it. This is precisely where the charm of cosplay as a hobby lies.
