【Sephiroth cosplay】The Cold Aesthetics of Final Fantasy VII Remake - Image 1

This time, I am sharing a set of official Sephiroth cosplay photos. In fact, at first glance, everyone might be misled by the album cover text on the image, but this is a deliberate shaping of illusions; as I mentioned in the post, this is actually a set of Cosplay photography we shot in a real-world environment. The shooting location was specially selected to have glass curtain walls and outdoor greenery, paired with slightly cool, cyan-green ambient light. The final presented effect accidentally matches certain atmospheres in Final Fantasy VII Remake perfectly.

In terms of costume preparation, this set of armor is the hardest part of the entire cosplay. The white curved shoulder pauldrons not only need to have the tough texture of metal but also need to stay clean under reflections. To make the visual effect look heavy and protective, we put a lot of thought into the choice of materials. The rivets and hollowed-out details on the pauldrons were handmade, trying to restore those traces of battle and time weathering in the game rather than being simply smooth. The black inner shirt features a deep-V and cross-strap design; although it perfectly presents the character's own cold temperament, the tightness also needed special adjustments to ensure wearing comfort.

The long silver hair is one of Sephiroth's most recognizable characteristics. Before shooting, we spent a lot of time combing the direction of the hair strands, making the hair roots voluminous and upright, and letting the hair ends drape naturally. For the makeup, I intentionally toned down the blush and emphasized the deep contours of the eyes and a whitish foundation, seeking to get closer to the character's boundaryless mystery that lies between humans and monsters.

The entire shooting process requires high body control because the character himself carries a nonchalant yet all-controlling aura. Therefore, there shouldn't be too much emotion revealed when taking photos; the focus of the gaze should be somewhat loose, while the chin should be slightly raised to better replicate that superior feeling. Compared to studio shoots, the lighting changes in this outdoor location actually added quite a few challenges. Since we couldn't perfectly control the reflections from the glass and leaves on site, we spent some time in post-processing to unify the color tones, ultimately retaining only that cool, serene green atmosphere. As for the shooting highlights, to keep the wig from getting frizzy, styling spray was always kept in the bag, and I had to dodge the outdoor breeze at any time. Wearing the shoulder armor was also very troublesome; it would easily slide down if I relaxed even a bit, causing the posture of the head, neck, and shoulders to stay constantly tensed. This is actually why cosplay is exceptionally exhausting—it is not only a test of makeup but also a test of physical stamina and core strength. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the level of completion of this cosplay, especially the texture of the pauldrons and the wig, which ultimately presented an aura conforming to the character's setting in front of the lens.
