[Ganyu Cosplay] Genshin Impact: If I Knew It Was a Dream, Why Wake Up? Daily Photoshoot of a Liyue Adepti

From the moment I put on this Ganyu outfit, every joining point—from intricate clothing details to hair texture—needed to be re-examined. The red and black interwoven horn accessories on top of my head, along with that iconic sticking-up hair tuft (ahoge), form the core soul of the entire look. To give the light blue wig a natural sheen in real life, I spent a whole afternoon grooming and layering it thin, preventing the head size from appearing too big and ruining the proportions.

The dark blue fabric of the outfit presents different layered depths under natural light versus indoor lighting. The heart-shaped hollow metal bell pendant on the chest required consideration not only for load positioning, but also ensuring it wouldn't sway excessively while walking and ruin the overall silhouette. Combining the black leather choker with gold edging, alongside the semi-transparent black mesh and subtle pattern embroidery on the sleeves, provides many hidden design details. The trickiest part of this outfit is the layering between the inner silver sequined shorts and the long skirt hem; if posed incorrectly, it easily looks bulky. So in front of the mirror, I repeatedly adjusted my stance and center of gravity, trying different leg bends so the sequin elements and the drape of the blue skirt hem created a smooth silhouette in front of the lens.

For makeup, we chose purple contact lenses that match the original design, using earth tones for a base before outlining details corresponding to the original art features, including slight shading on the lower eyelids to enlarge the eye contours. For lips, a brick-red matte lipstick was chosen—not overly vibrant on camera, but enough to support the character's spiritual charm. The beauty mark intentionally added to the face is a key element in recreating character facial traits—small, but the finishing touch.

The shooting location was set in a common public area of a shopping mall, where reflections on floor tiles contrasted sharply with red-brown door panels. Although less refined than a specialized studio shoot, this location added a whimsical sense of real-world colliding with the anime dimension. During mirror selfies, deliberate negative space was needed to prevent clutter in the background, while close-up shots brought sharper focus to the character's expressions. This shift from full-body mirror shots to close-up face shots presents a vivid character image.

Standing before the mirror and looking at my reflection, a strange illusion takes over. Many players' perception of Ganyu might stay around the "Coco Goat" meme or her cute face shape, but in my heart, Ganyu is not only Liyue's brain trust, but also possesses immense execution power as one of the Liyue Adepti. The original intent of this Ganyu Cosplay was to recreate her steadfast yet gentle aura. I always believe that pouring heart into every detail of a character allows the audience in front of the screen to feel genuine sincerity.

During this shoot, what touched me most was everyone's attention to detail. Sometimes, adjusting a tilted hair accessory or getting a better reflection from the choker's metal buckle required re-shooting dozens of photos. Though tiring, seeing myself perfectly capture the character's demeanor in the final photos made all exhaustion vanish instantly.

When organizing the visual camera language, I deliberately chose a combination of full-body standing poses and half-body close-ups. Full-body photos completely convey the drape of the outfit and footwear texture through the mirror, while close-ups delicately express the inner soul through the eyes. Whether it's the red-and-black horn accessories, the meticulously designed metal bell at the collar, or the subtle patterns on the semi-transparent black mesh gloves, every element tells the unique story of the Liyue secretary.

Beyond recreating the character, I hope this Ganyu Cosplay expression lets the audience sense a quiet companionship behind the character. This passion fills me with anticipation before every shoot. Being able to utilize rest time to gradually translate character settings in my head into authentic physical gear yields an intoxicating sense of accomplishment. Shooting in front of the mirror, I naturally step into Ganyu's calm pace, unconsciously setting aside my usual impatience, adjusting my breath to ensure my state in the photos appears relaxed yet firm.

I know many friends love Ganyu, not only for her appearance, but for her wonderful contrast of working tirelessly for Liyue Harbor while balancing work and life. I tried to capture this balance—aiming for crispness in makeup and steady elegance in posture. Sharing these photos today aims to display the dedication and passion as a cosplayer sticking to original character settings.
