The texture of this Kuro Rei cosplay outfit was actually quite challenging to handle. The extensive areas of red and black patent leather are extremely sensitive to light; shooting in an environment with complex lighting like an anime convention required constantly adjusting standing positions to avoid awkward reflections. The mechanical structure on the back also put the garment's tailoring to the test, restricting movement once worn, but thankfully the photographer guided me with great patience.
The prop this time was a large long-handled scythe in a red and black color scheme, which felt much heavier to hold than it looked, requiring me to constantly maintain my center of gravity when posing and swinging it. Paired with Black stockings cosplay and patent leather over-the-knee boots, it effectively elongated leg lines, though it was genuinely difficult to bend my legs. Combined with the crowded convention venue and stiff soles, standing for prolonged periods was physically exhausting, and my feet even got stepped on by passersby a few times along the way.
As a clone of Rei Ayanami, this character demands a gaze carrying minimal emotion yet a subtle trace of determination. To faithfully capture Kuro Rei's unique aura, I deliberately adjusted my eye focus during the shoot to make my gaze appear more ethereal and detached. Throughout the shoot, we experimented with several different compositions, including low-angle crouching poses and glancing back sideways, highlighting the attractive details of the costume and the commanding presence of the weapon. Although the scene was somewhat cluttered with many passersby in the background, we still captured the clean frames we wanted through clever, tricky shooting angles.
Whether it was the form-fitting Black stockings or the patent leather armor, this look severely tested body proportions, making it one of my more challenging Convention photos shoots. Finally, thanks to the photographer for the hard work—the overall condition and vibe matched the character closely, making for a truly enjoyable photo return record.
