Today, my partner Baiyu and I completed this outdoor photoshoot of Lynette and Lumine from Genshin Impact, with photography by Riko. The theme of this shoot was titled 'The Cat and Random Numbers'—I cosplayed Lynette, while Baiyu cosplayed Lumine. The overall palette of our outfits centered on pure white and soft light blue, harmonizing with the natural forest environment to cultivate an airy, tranquil, and fantastical ambiance.
Our first stop was a park bench. To capture that languid and intimate atmosphere, I reclined halfway across Baiyu's lap while she sat upright, gently stroking my hair. While this pose appears effortless, it actually places high demands on core strength and posture control; particularly when wearing voluminous petticoats, keeping the upper torso poised and leg lines elongated is essential to avoid looking slouchy on camera. To keep the skirt from creasing, I also paid special attention to how the fabric was layered when adjusting my posture.
For the second setup, we moved deeper into the woods. To echo the blue accents of our characters, we brought along a long blue flowing ribbon. Waving the ribbon really tested arm coordination and rhythm; Baiyu and I walked through the trees repeatedly, trying different walking paces and angles until we finally captured the dynamic split-second when the ribbon unfurled gracefully in mid-air. In our hand-holding interactions, we also avoided rigid posing, incorporating more eye contact and natural shifts of weight.
Afterward, we headed toward the waterside railings and open lawn. Although the sunlight was brilliant that day, harsh direct beams easily cast stiff shadows across our faces. Fortunately, our photographer Riko is remarkably skilled at capturing light and shadow, using tree foliage for diffusion alongside reflectors to make our facial lighting soft and translucent. Our interactions on the lawn also blended naturally with people enjoying the park in the background, adding an everyday slice-of-life warmth to the scene.
The final set was shot atop a fallen tree trunk. I absolutely loved the composition here with Baiyu wielding her sword while I sat beside her with crossed legs. To highlight the fullness of the skirt and leg contours, I deliberately shifted my weight backward, letting my legs extend naturally in a gentle cross, using high heels and ankle straps to flatter leg proportions. The White stockings and off-the-shoulder cut were highlights of this look; during the shoot, I aimed to form a triangular composition between the hem and legs, which not only looks visually slender but also complements the character's elegant yet enigmatic charm.
Beyond managing poses and facial expressions, Outdoor photography demands navigating many real-world elements—such as bugs on the grass, fluctuating woodland light, and the stability of walking across soil in platform shoes. To keep our makeup pristine, Baiyu and I periodically touched up our wigs and hairpieces, especially the cat ears, which required bobby pins to stay firmly anchored during broader movements. Between takes, we also helped each other smooth down lace trims and pearl embellishments, ensuring every detail held up under close-up inspection. Though it was a busy shoot, seeing the interplay of light and shadow in the final photos made every adjustment completely worthwhile. That wraps up this visual log, and I look forward to our next creation.
