[Lin Yuxia cosplay] Arknights Debut Convention Photo: Pairing a Folding Fan with a Cool, Alluring Aura

Convention photo from the Shanghai Anime Convention event on January 2nd! This time I cosplayed Lin Yuxia from Arknights, marking my very first cosplay of 2026. I had this costume prepared long ago, but due to scheduling conflicts, it was delayed for half a year. Finally getting the chance to shoot it, the entire process felt truly amazing.

Regarding character preparation, a lot of effort went into hair and makeup styling. The long silvery-white and light-purple wig was paired with pink-and-white beast ears adorned with silver rings and purple tassels. To keep the wig and ears securely in place, a black headband was added across the forehead for stabilization. The foundation was kept as clean and translucent as possible, while the eye makeup adopted reddish-pink tones, complemented by reddish-brown contact lenses and deep red lipstick to faithfully capture the character's cool detachment and formidable presence. The outfit is predominantly black with a mandarin collar and wide sleeves, featuring blue and purple reflective fabric patchworks on the lining and waist sash, along with a black leather belt and draping long purple tassels around the waist.

We also explored various poses and angles during the shoot. The first photo extends the folding fan directly toward the lens, using perspective to create an imposing feel and a more direct composition. The second is a profile pose, holding the fan beside the face to half-conceal it while utilizing the wide sleeves and side sash to display the layers of the outfit. The third features arms crossed facing forward, gazing directly into the camera with a detached expression. The gold-patterned black folding fan is the finishing touch of this styling; holding it requires precise control of finger pressure. The fan ribs are quite rigid, so care was taken to avoid harsh glares during telephoto shots. Lighting inside the Shanghai venue was rather complex, but using cool-toned illumination matched the black-and-purple palette perfectly, successfully bringing out the interplay of matte and reflective textures on the fabric. During the shoot, I communicated composition requirements with the photographer—to preserve the sharp, resolute presence of the fan, movements couldn't be too soft, requiring a firm wrist.

Since it had been a while since I last did such a complex convention photo shoot, my movements were unavoidably a bit stiff at first. Fortunately, the sleeves of the outfit were wide, offering plenty of expressive room on camera; slightly adjusting the angles of the waist sash and hair brought out the character's distinct style. Overall, the shoot was very smooth, fulfilling my long-awaited plan for an outfit prepared over half a year ago, and capturing results I truly love was deeply satisfying.
