Looking back at the live photos from Day 2 of the Xiamen Golden Dolphin convention on November 2nd last year, this outfit holds a special commemorative meaning for me. Although quite some time has passed since the event, flipping through these archives still brings back memories of the light and atmosphere during the outdoor shooting that day.
The overall makeup and styling this time were coordinated around a pink-and-white and red color palette. When trimming the wig, I intentionally left an airy feel to give the blue hair a fluffy and distinctly layered effect, paired with red colored contacts to elevate the focus of my gaze. As for the costume, the ruffles at the neckline of this dress are quite richly layered; the brooch fixed at the bowtie and the thin red rope belt at the waist visually raised the waistline. The mesh fabric of the skirt hem is layered with multiple pleats, providing a great dynamic effect when naturally lifted during the shoot.
I also put some thought into the wing props; the mottled texture on the surface and the hollowed-out skeleton work with the soft lighting to avoid any hard plastic feel. During the actual on-site shoot, though the gesture of holding a goblet looked elegant, I had to pay attention to the reflection of the glass and its tilt angle to avoid ruining the illusion. For the photo in Figure 6, where I'm holding a red apple while gripping a red spear, many friends asked if it was an impromptu idea; it was actually to balance my center of gravity and look for a more dynamic composition. The roundness of the red apple contrasts with the hard, straight lines of the spear, and together with the natural light on-site, it makes the pink and red elements of the costume stand out even brighter. The outer architecture of the Xiamen Golden Dolphin convention venue is perfect for this high-key, bright photography style. The white-and-grey background highlights the subject better, while a larger aperture blurs the distant tall buildings, keeping the frame clean and not overly cluttered for these Convention photos.
When organizing these photos, I noticed that this look has many details, such as the mounting method of the wings on the back and the hidden snaps on the skirt hem, all of which needed to be concealed in advance under outdoor shooting conditions. Although moving around in a costume with wings is not as convenient as casual clothes, these preparations are essential to restore the character's traits in this cosplay. Recalling the process of queuing and set arranging that day, it was busy but full of fulfillment. This archive serves as a complete review of this dedicated preparation.
