When shooting this Fan-made design cosplay set for Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail, I didn't deliberately try to recreate a specific in-game story scene. Instead, I wanted to leverage the blooming spring scenery and custom styling to capture that soft, shimmering beauty inherent to her. From early style selection to final photos, the entire preparation process felt like a gradual harmonization between character and environment.
Let's talk about the wig styling first. Compared to Firefly's more streamlined original hairstyle, I chose voluminous long wavy hair for this custom design featuring a White hair, blue tail gradient transitioning to light blue at the ends. This white-to-blue gradient appears exceptionally translucent under outdoor natural light. The bangs were deliberately cut with an airy, layered feel to avoid heavily covering the forehead, while retaining the black hairbow top accessory, light blue flower hairpin accents on both sides, and fluffy pom-poms near the ears, making the overall head contour look rich and vivid on camera. The wig fiber texture was handled nicely with a matte finish rather than shiny reflections, creating wonderful visual harmony with the matte fabric of the outfit.
For the outfit, I selected a light-colored floral Japanese-style cut. The primary color palette blends white and light green, embroidered with delicate flower and leaf textures. This low-saturation color combination doesn't clash against the spring pink background, instead bringing its own cool, gentle elegance. The top design emphasizes the extension lines of the collar and sleeves; wide sleeves combined with lightweight fabric add dynamic movement whether holding the cloth or letting it flutter in the breeze. Given the Fan-made design cosplay premise, complex combat accessories from her original lore were omitted to present a dreamier, more life-like form.
The centerpiece prop is a translucent white gauze round fan. Pearl-like embellishments trim the frame, while fine lace patterns filter through the mesh. The fan handle is tied with a white gauze ribbon ending in a small golden fish-shaped charm and pale yellow tassel. Under light, the fan casts beautiful interplay between shade and translucency; shots of the fan covering my face or held aloft resulted from repeated adjustments with the photographer. Ribbons dancing lightly in the wind added dynamic visual elements to static frames. This prop provided excellent leading lines during the shoot and gave my hand gestures a natural resting point without stiffness.
Regarding makeup, I chose a translucent base to preserve natural skin texture, focusing on harmony between eye makeup and lip color. Purple contacts paired with deep purple-blue eyeliner made my gaze appear remarkably deep and gentle. Lips featured a bright orange-red hue that enhanced complexion, providing a great visual balance between the pink-white background and white-blue hair, making the character feel alive. Controlling light and shadow was paramount: we shot around 10:00 AM under soft natural light where sunlight filtered through leaves and petals to cast dapples across my face. Instead of harsh shadows, ambient light provided soft diffusion. The wide-aperture bokeh effect excelled at blurring cluttered pink and dark green foliage into dreamy background bokeh, drawing all visual focus back onto the subject.
Compositionally, I favor medium close-ups like Photo 1. Direct gaze with the lens combined with hands gently resting on the fan handle under half-veiled white gauze exudes genuine relaxation. Photo 2 highlights more upper body contours and prop extensions. What mattered most was tacit understanding with the photographer regarding the Fan-made design cosplay state—we didn't pursue 100% original accuracy, but emphasized integrating the character's spiritual core into a new outfit with Spring vibes. These photographs carry not just the character, but seasonal, limited-edition emotions, materializing a fondness for tender buds and soft spring warmth. For a character like Firefly, who carries tragic weight in a grand universe, sitting under this lens grants her an added touch of earthly warmth and peace.
