This photoshoot centered on the character of Ruruka, incorporating the creative concept of a Purple cupcake. From costume selection to studio lighting setup, every detail underwent meticulous planning. The most eye-catching element of this look was undoubtedly the Black and white dress. The outer layer was an oversized black smock dress with neatly piped edges, spliced with wide white ruffled frills at the neckline and cuffs—this layered lining design gave the overall silhouette great dimensional structure. Styling the signature curled ahoge on the White wig alone took half an hour of prep work—first sculpting the shape with hair wax, then locking it in place with strong-hold hairspray to ensure it wouldn't collapse when turning my head. To match the character's eye texture, I chose pale purple-blue contacts and swept soft pink blush across a wide area around the eyes; this subtle flushed makeup effectively amplified the gentle softness of the gaze. During the shoot, showcasing the legs was a core focus of the composition. To highlight the sleekness and flattering lines of the Pink stockings, I repeatedly adjusted my center of gravity across seated poses. The first shot featured crossed legs to raise the visual focal point; the second elongated the frame with stretched legs; while the kneeling pose in the third shot resonated with the character's playful and spirited personality. The ice cream prop held in hand was a custom high-fidelity replica coated with fine gloss varnish, featuring a natural golden-brown gradient on the waffle cone below. Holding it required careful balance to prevent finger pressure from distorting the cone's shape. The entire shoot took place in a seamless monochrome backdrop studio, where a cylindrical pedestal allowed me to find the optimal lighting angle while rotating my body. High-key photography relies heavily on precise light control, so we deliberately utilized large softboxes to disperse light evenly from an overhead diagonal angle, minimizing shadows on the face and legs. In terms of prop details beyond the ice cream, there was also a black bow hair accessory. The original bow was too flat, so I reinforced the interior with wire support so it could maintain a perky, tilted angle. As for the cuffs of that black smock, they feature a subtle lantern-sleeve cut rather than a tight fit, creating natural and cute folds whenever my arms moved. The white ruffled cuffs stacked two to three layers of lace, providing an exquisite accent even from a distance. During makeup application, the inner brows were drawn softly to blend the eyebrow color seamlessly with the platinum White wig, avoiding sharp arches to soften the facial bone structure—a classic technique for recreating 2D anime characters. Reviewing the photos revealed that while high-key lighting creates a clean look, it easily washes out bodily contours. Thus, in post-processing, we intentionally emphasized neck shadow contours and the natural depth of the skirt drape to enhance spatial dimension and prevent the visuals from feeling overly flat or cloying. Before shooting, we also tested the color payoff of the Pink stockings under cool lighting, as this soft pink hue easily gets distorted by ambient light—turning nude or peach-pink under yellowish light. We strictly controlled the overall color temperature to maintain a crisp, cool yet sweet aesthetic. When shooting the third kneeling pose, I adjusted the skirt folds several times; spreading the front too wide makes it resemble a flat disc, whereas asymmetrical, textured folds look far more aesthetic. Resting my hand there, I intentionally relaxed my fingers to create a natural, effortless tension without looking stiff. Although wearing stockings on a smooth cylindrical pedestal made it easy to slide off—requiring core strength to maintain balance—the final visual output was exceptionally clean. This photo set fully expressed our unique interpretation of the Purple cupcake theme in this Ruruka cosplay.
