[Luo Tianyi Cosplay] VOCALOID: Feeling the Engine's Heartbeat Between the Scorching Sun and the Checkered Flag

Stepping onto the midsummer rooftop parking lot, the cement ground beneath my feet reflects the scorching sunlight. Today's shoot, from location scouting to the final results, actually posed as big a challenge as I anticipated. Instead of deliberately pursuing a gorgeous studio atmosphere, I set the venue choice outdoors: a black sports car, a checkered flag, and a wide, unobstructed blue sky formed all the elements of these photos. When preparing the gear, this blue, white, and black color scheme outfit truly made one's eyes light up. Instead of choosing a particularly heavy and complex skirt hem, it adopted a techwear top embellished with zippers and straps, paired with a black pleated miniskirt. I must specially mention this silver-gray wig; it took quite a long time to prepare for the styling. The black bow with blue stripes on the crown, the direction of those few hair strands, and the overall playful twin-tail styling all needed to be carefully adjusted to match the sharp feeling I wanted. However, wearing this kind of clothing with collar rings and various strap structures, plus a wig in the summer, is indeed quite a sultry experience.

When seeing this black car nearby, I felt the reflection effect of the car paint could just echo the blue and white colors on my clothes. Though simply standing or crouching statically beside the car, holding that checkered flag truly made me feel a bit of the refreshment of a racer waiting before the finish line. During the shooting breaks, I kept thinking that true drivers indeed listen to the moment when the engine and heartbeat resonate. As a coser who likes to try different style characters, holding my breath and focusing my gaze before the lens when the shutter is pressed brings a similar feeling of an accelerated heartbeat.

To showcase more clothing details, especially the lower body outfit, I attempted several different actions, such as lowering my center of gravity to crouch beside the front of the car, which beautifully highlights the lines of the shoe heels and the white checkered stockings, perfectly matching the interaction position beside the vehicle. For another standing posture, I chose an action of stepping forward with a high leg raise, while simultaneously maintaining the gesture of holding up the flag. I thought at the time that if the movement were slightly unstable or the expression wasn't in place, it would easily ruin the refreshing yet slightly sharp tone of this styling. Regarding the details on the skirt hem and the negative space of the overall outfit, I think this design is very ingenious. It doesn't completely wrap up the body but allows a certain degree of skin exposure at the neckline and waist. Paired with a lively skirt for the lower half and over-knee white stockings, it visually elongates the lower body proportions while making the whole person look like a racing girl ready to step into the cockpit at any moment.

The entire process of shooting these photos was actually quite delightful. We chose a high level of the parking lot with a very open view, where rows of high-rises could be seen in the distance. The overhead sunlight shined on the pitch-black roof car hood and cement ground, making the light exceptionally clear, which made it easy to capture the light sense on the clothes and the layers of the wig. The entire shooting process lasted for about a few hours; though there was sweating, watching the frames in the viewfinder gradually become rich allowed me to gradually find the most natural state under this racing style outfit. Honestly, bringing a flat character into a real-world scene, paired with proper props and a vehicle, and then freezing it into photos is something I have always thoroughly enjoyed since I started taking cosplay photos. Some costumes are suitable for shooting in an exquisite photo studio, while others are fit for shooting on such a rough and tough outdoor ground beside a car. This racing style perfectly matches this outdoor atmosphere under strong light. Unlike studio shoots where light can be perfectly controlled, natural outdoor light often brings a more vivid side.

The wind wasn't small on this shooting day either. Whenever the wind blew, the strands of the wig would float up, and the flag in hand would sway slightly, adding some dynamics to the originally static frame. I feel that after many attempts, it is still this kind of photo with a touch of life vibe and a sense of interaction with the real environment that leaves the deepest impression. When playing back the photos after the shoot, seeing the flag fall on the edge of the engine hood, coordinated with the character's specific gaze direction, I felt the overall vibe was just right. Finally, putting it all together, this set of photos showcases not just clothing and styling, but a complete restoration of the "driving" and "racing" atmosphere. As the presenter in front of the lens, I truly hope that every time the shutter clicks, it can convey that focus and vitality.
