I just wrapped up shooting this set in the photo area of the Black Dragonfly Anime Convention. While my makeup and wig were still in prime shape, I popped out the memory card to import and edit the photos right on site—all about delivering the fastest Convention photos possible. The booth backdrop for this convention had fantastic texture; the moody, dark-toned environment combined with the softboxes set up on location was wonderfully suited for my Pink and purple dress.
For styling, long wavy light-blue hair was paired with purple-and-white hair ornaments. Securing the two ears for this Elf ears cosplay was a major project, requiring repeated adjustments with hair lacquer and black bobby pins to achieve a seamless fit, while the golden bell choker brought out rich textural depth. The costume features intricate layers: a white-and-pink spliced top draped with a pink capelet, ruffled bell sleeves, and a pleated miniskirt emblazoned with purple swirl patterns. To harmonize with the overall palette, I wore White stockings and shoes adorned with purple bows. The skewer of tricolor dango in my hand was a custom-made prop; the prop maker crafted it with uncanny realism, perfectly echoing the white, pink, and purple tones of the garment.
Adjusting poses during the shoot was crucial. To accentuate the layers of the skirt and leg lines, I rested both legs across a black folding stepladder, leaning my upper body back against the metal frame for support. This pose required engaging my core to look effortless and relaxed rather than rigid. Holding the dango skewer up to my lips with my right hand, I tilted my head slightly toward the lens while resting my left hand naturally across my lap. The white plastic crate beside me and the bottle props on the ladder were improvised on site to enrich the composition, injecting everyday vitality and playful character into this Studio portrait.
Regarding post-processing, I avoided heavy liquifying and focused primarily on lighting and color grading. Under dark ambient illumination, faces easily suffer underexposure, so retouching prioritized brightening the facial tones and skin while crushing the background to sharpen cool-and-warm contrast. Blue wigs tend to turn dull and greyish under cool lighting, so I graded the shadows with a delicate blue-violet tint and gently boosted color saturation. The raw files already had impressive texture; retaining subtle skin texture is leagues better than smoothing everything into plastic porcelain.
Even though I was drenched in sweat while shooting, seeing these finished photos steeped in moody, cool-toned ambiance gave me a huge sense of fulfillment. I'm personally quite pleased with the synergy between the props and outfit—I wonder how everyone feels about it! Since I'm rushing to publish this initial batch of Convention photos, I will take my time later to sort through the remaining raw captures.
