[Yaoyao cosplay] New Year's Eve: Yuegui Bids Farewell to the Rabbit, Water Dragon Welcomes the Dragon

Shooting this Yaoyao cosplay work and choosing to publish it on New Year's Eve naturally merges the atmosphere of ringing out the old and welcoming the new with the character's lively and nimble temperament. From costume tailoring to accessory texture, preparations this time aimed to stay as close as possible to the original character design. The grass-green vest serves as the visual centerpiece, interleaving with white long sleeves to add layers to the overall styling. Red knotted cords embellishing the cuffs and brown crisscross laces on the chest form a harmonious color harmony. The lower body features dark brown shorts paired with white tall boots, where a ring of black fluff at the boot cuffs adds a sense of winter outfit realism while making body proportions appear more balanced.

Hair accuracy is a key focus of this look. The signature double bun hairstyle is secured with golden metallic sphere hair ornaments, paired with yellow X-shaped hair clips along both sides of the hairline, plus straight bangs and layered trimming. This ensures visual fidelity while significantly reducing the wig's heavy feel during wear. Holding the scroll inscribed with "Happy New Year's Eve" easily draws viewers into warm memories of Lunar New Year celebrations. The second set leaned toward an outdoor miniature ecological landscape—cascading pink cherry blossoms, blooming blue starflowers, and artificial turf across the floor. Bright, vibrant colors were particularly suited for displaying character agility. In such an environment, complex lighting wasn't necessary; surrounding plants and prop colors alone made the portrait come alive.

Details during the shooting process were also quite engaging. The large woven basket on my back was a heavy prop that easily slipped while posing, so the photographer carefully adjusted strap tightness from various angles to ensure it stayed in the most perfect position. The small yellow rabbit plushie and various plant dumplings in my hands provided inspiration for body poses as well. Whether cute poses resting cheeks on hands or relaxed moments sitting on the floor hugging plushies, these kept shooting moments from feeling mechanical. In particular, for the single-leg standing pose, given the balance challenge in tall boots, adjusting center of gravity multiple times was required to snap the stablest moment; sometimes for a perfect glance back, we tried candid captures multiple times under the same action sequence.

From an emotional transmission perspective, the color palette and setting of this work fit the New Year festive mood wonderfully. With New Year's Day passed and New Year's Eve arrived, welcoming the new year with Yaoyao—a lively, adorable, and vibrant character—on this day symbolizing family reunion carries a special meaning. The line in the post description, "Watch tonight as Yuegui bids farewell to the Rabbit of Mao, and wait quietly tomorrow for the Water Dragon to welcome the Dragon of Chen," is beautifully written—pointing out the flow of time while establishing a cross-dimensional link between cosplay and traditional cultural imagery. Combining 2D hobbies with Chinese style imagery is a creative direction I've particularly enjoyed exploring recently.

Regarding final photo output, light and color control turned out satisfying. Whether bright and crisp against a white background or warm and soft in moonlight scenery, character traits were successfully magnified. For Cosplay photography, it isn't merely imitating external forms, but more importantly endowing this 2D visual image with authentic emotion through combined effects of costume, hair/makeup, and set design. This photo set was completed while visiting a Selfie studio; although physically exhausting, looking at final produced photos transforms all those hiccups during pose and prop adjustments into joyful memories.
