This torrential rainstorm in Guangzhou made the journey to the Dimension Ark Anime and Game Carnival much more chaotic than expected, but I still made it to the venue smoothly, splashing through puddles along the way. This time, I changed into this blue-and-white water-ripple outfit, hoping to leverage the slightly cyberpunk and dreamy lighting at the venue of Guangzhou Anime Convention to capture a uniquely dynamic and ethereal atmosphere.
Let's talk about the costume presentation first. Overall, it focuses on a color palette of deep blue, pure white, and silver-gray. The metallic blue gem on the chest, along with the giant blue-and-white striped bow above it, serves as the visual focus of the entire upper body. The black choker paired with a hanging matching teardrop-shaped gem refracts a clear blue-green hue under the venue's lights of varying color temperatures. Added with ruffled tulle at the cuffs and shoulders, contrasting visually with the wide water-pattern outer sleeves, it enriches the two-dimensional layering remarkably well.
For the hairstyle, a delicate gradient treatment was specially created, featuring light pink blunt bangs transitioning toward blue at the ends. The blue ornament and ring-shaped hair accessories on top of the head create noticeable dynamic effects when holding the umbrella or turning around. The transparent lace umbrella brought along this time was also very cleverly designed—not only does its edge feature lace trimming, but the hanging blue-purple tassels sway with movement when raised. Including the cut-out tight thigh-high socks on the lower body paired with light-colored platform sandals, this design stretches the visual proportions wonderfully.
Huge thanks for this photoset go to photographer @RedMoo Redhair_. We actually hadn't met or collaborated for almost half a year, but encountering each other at the anime convention today, we still shared full tacit synergy as soon as the equipment was put on to shoot. Facing the complex light sources and background at the venue, he professionally used the purple-pink square light fixtures on site as background accents. By using a large aperture to blur the cluttered environment and passersby, the focus was locked firmly onto the subject. Whether capturing expressions during close-up shots or guiding poses for a full-body shot holding the umbrella on one leg, the whole cosplay photography process was extremely efficient.
I've always felt that good cosplay photography doesn't necessarily have to be limited to plain studio shoots. Combining the unique atmosphere of an anime convention and pressing the shutter with an old photographer friend after a long time amidst such a tight and bustling pace has rich commemorative value in itself. This outfit's materials are exquisite, with the translucent tulle texture appearing even softer under pink lighting. Being able to leave behind such vivid images with a familiar partner at a convention right after a heavy rainstorm made this trip truly worthwhile.
