Shooting this set of photos coincided with early summer, and the outdoor waterside environment perfectly fit the character's natural, pure aura. Although it wasn't my first time shooting this character, I always have new ideas regarding prop details and light usage. Looking at the overall color scheme of this outfit, the blue-purple woven-texture vest forms distinct layering with white lantern sleeves, while the ruffled folds along the straw hat brim and skirt layers present naturally flowing lines under gentle breezes. For props, I specially prepared this artificial lotus leaf; its saturation is slightly brighter than ordinary foliage, serving as a visual focal point in the frame without stealing the scene at all.
The second photo was a candid capture when I was in my best state during the second half of the day. Raising one leg looks playful and effortless, but in reality, it demands high balance control. I had to ensure the skirt hem didn't get blown out of shape by the wind while keeping footwear and white long sock details unhidden by twisted folds. Deep-colored platform Mary Janes provided a solid footing on the grass and firm ground near the water, helping maintain this dynamic standing pose while visually elongating leg proportions, which, paired with the White tights cosplay element, hit right at the core lively charm of this composition.
The standing pose in the first photo is relatively quiet, but what satisfied me was the purple bows at the cuffs and white plush pom-poms hanging at the waist—these small scattered accents show up beautifully under natural light. In Outdoor cosplay photography, controlling facial light is often the hardest part; to prevent the brim from casting heavy shadows over my face, I carefully adjusted the hat's tilt angle several times and even raised my hand slightly to guide viewers' visual focus. The piecing at the garment collar and cuffs was detailed, keeping ruffled edges neat even during larger-magnitude turns.
Shooting along a riverbank filled with weeds and wildflowers really tests the photographer's background blurring. Since environmental tones of grass and water lean green, without mindful contrast of light and shadow, a subject in blue and white attire can easily blend into the background. Thus, I tried utilizing the rough texture of tree trunks as a backdrop; that raw woodiness contrasted nicely with the intricate quilting stitching on the costume. In dynamic poses like the second photo, extending an arm sideways allows the wide sleeves to open naturally, showcasing the character's unfettered vitality.
I've always felt that outdoor shoots don't need to force complex studio-grade lighting. Weather transitioning from cloudy to sunny, with natural highlights reflected off water, captures the translucent texture of mixed costume fabrics far better. Especially white sections—neither dead white nor washed out—reveal true fabric weaves. Repeatedly squatting to adjust skirt hems and check whether grass bits stuck to the tights during filming was physically exhausting, but seeing tassels spread naturally in the final photos made all the effort feel well worth it.
Beyond paying homage to my beloved character, shooting this photo set gave me deeper insight into grasping character traits within outdoor environments. Whether button details atop the hat or cross-lacing across the front vest, every design element tells the character's backstory. I kept my facial expressions natural, striving to convey that slightly curious yet completely composed demeanor, hoping these early summer photos transmit the relaxed, joyful mood I felt during the shoot.
