Wearing this heavy red dress and golden headdress, I attempted to bring the character from Battle Through the Heavens to life on-site at the Anime convention. When putting everything on, the most challenging part to get used to was the massive golden headdress—it was not only heavy but had a high center of gravity. Due to its weight, extra bobby pins and wig reinforcement were needed; otherwise, it easily tilted when walking or turning my head. With the crowded Anime convention venue, moving around required utmost caution to avoid bumping into others. Next came the ultra-high platform heels with heels nearly fifteen centimeters tall; although the front platform offered some cushioning, keeping a steady gait remained tricky. To facilitate posing and accentuate leg lines, the skirt was designed with a high slit, but this also caused the heavy fabric to trip my steps easily, requiring me to lift the heavy hem by hand constantly. To best project the character's glamorous, cool aura before the lens, the eye makeup incorporated red-and-black gradient blending paired with pointed elf ears props to visually elongate facial contours and shape the eyes.
Scouting angles during the shoot took numerous adjustments. The most strenuous pose was the one lifting a leg up high, requiring balanced center-of-gravity control while keeping thigh lines and musculature looking sleek and proportionate. To achieve the best visual effect, some stretching was done beforehand, and the direction of the High-slit long dress hem had to be carefully managed on set to avoid capturing strain marks from inner leg muscle engagement. Leaning against a wall or using open space for stabilization helped keep the leg steady without trembling. The lighting was quite intricate with multicolored lights and overhead strobes, demanding high camera equipment capabilities. Big thanks to the photographer for securing great framing, utilizing top light to bring out the rich texture of the red silk with even reflection and vivid colors.
Meeting several fellow fans on site, many complimented the overall fidelity of the costume and the visual impact of the long legs. Capturing long legs on camera is actually tough: it requires controlling balance, pointing the instep straight, engaging the core, and maintaining good posture to hold the silhouette. The outfit also features an open back, leaving skin exposed; with low warmth retention in the chilly, air-conditioned Anime convention hall, wearing nude thermal layers is recommended. Fortunately, the lighting was fantastic, and exchanging ideas with friends on posing and light adjustment was very fruitful. Throughout the experience, I realized that cosplaying this character takes more than just garments—it demands strong core strength and balance. Posing looks effortless, but my legs were quite sore afterward. A lot of effort went into crafting these flawless lines and expressions, and I hope these preparations and shooting tips provide helpful reference for anyone wanting to tackle this Medusa cosplay.
For the upper body's red top and golden armor, the armor must be strapped tightly across the chest to prevent slipping. In a crowded Anime convention setting, one can easily feel constrained, so getting into character quickly with focused, cold-glam expressions is vital. The stiff golden bracers and collar poked a bit when looking down, but that was negligible for the sake of accuracy. Chatting with other photographers along the way about composition and lighting, we found that the red, black, and gold palette popped brilliantly under strong lighting, making fair skin look even more radiant. Moving to an open clearing in the hall, the photographer directed me to raise my leg high while using a telephoto lens to compress perspective and blur out the crowd. Angling the body slightly with the camera pointing subtly downward elongated the leg lines visually. In the final shots, the pointed instep paired seamlessly with the heel details to create flattering proportions. The leg lines everyone talked about owe much to finding the proper center of gravity and adjusting side angles rather than relying purely on filters—it's about controlling muscle tension so the legs look slender and elegant in motion. The shoot went smoothly overall, and despite hours of being cinched by various accessories, seeing the final photos made every bit of effort worthwhile. It was a true blend of physical endurance and posing technique, akin to completing an exciting photoshoot challenge.
