[Dorothy Cosplay] The Girl and Light/Shadow in the Rose Garden

The theme of this shoot is Dorothy's modified cheongsam look. The makeup heavily emphasizes the slightly red outer corners of the eyes, allowing the pink wig to blend more naturally with the overall pink and white base tone. The headpiece chooses exquisite small flowers and rhinestone embellishments. The complex braided hair and hair accessories took quite some preparation time before the shoot, hoping to present a visual effect that is elegant yet does not lose the dynamic agility of anime styling.

In terms of clothing, this outfit does not adopt the traditional stiff cheongsam tailoring, but instead borrows the cheongsam's neckline and teardrop collar design, paired with a large area of white lace and tulle. The embroidery pattern at the shoulders and sleeves is very sophisticated. The pink-and-white ruffled skirt hem and white tights on the lower body are the highlights of the overall look. To match the texture of the lightweight skirt hem, white chunky-heeled single shoes were specially paired. Under the reflection of outdoor light, the texture of the white stockings and the lines of the legs are naturally displayed.

The shooting location was chosen at a rose garden in London that comes with its own flower trellises. The golden backlighting near evening penetrated the dense greenery and white cluster flowers, forming a very beautiful rim light along the edges of the hair strands and skirt hem. The photographer @Mogu Yutang (蘑菇鱼汤) is exceptionally skilled at capturing this kind of light and shadow atmosphere. Whether sitting on a wooden bench extending both legs, or taking off shoes to relaxedly place feet on the bench surface, these impromptu actions were recorded in front of the lens. Especially in the composition of Picture 2, the taken-off single shoes are placed by the feet, and the person leans against the back of the chair, combined with the warm color tones refracted by the sunlight, giving the frame both a cute, casual daily feel and a bright temperament unique to this character.

A beige ruffled parasol was also used as a prop during the shoot. The close-up of holding the umbrella by the red rose bushes in Picture 4 perfectly balanced the dynamic and static ratio of the entire set of photos. Although shooting outdoors while wearing white silk stockings requires extra attention to avoid getting dirty, seeing the dreamlike colors created by the backlighting in the viewfinder made everything feel worth it. The entire set of photos does not pile up too many complex special effects, relying more on natural light and shadow, character expressions, and prop coordination to recreate a vivid character image living in a foreign garden. In the fast-paced London life, having such a period of time to immerse under the flower trellises and quietly complete a satisfying cosplay work counts as a great relaxation.
