[Amphoreus cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Blue Hour Outdoor Photography Log

Looking at the photos we just took, the sky is a greyish-blue, while the balloons in our hands are bright. Standing on the stone bridge with the evening breeze blowing, shooting that set of group photo behind-the-scenes moments felt truly comfortable. Because my partner worked with me with such incredible chemistry, our state stayed very natural despite being an outdoor shoot.

Regarding Amphoreus and Honkai: Star Rail, this time we focused on recreating movements that fit the mood rather than deliberately striking complex poses, capturing many candid, everyday moments instead. Many friends outside the community might not understand how tiring outdoor photography can be, but the moment the shutter clicks during blue hour, all the fatigue genuinely vanishes.

On the costume, makeup, and prop side, even though there were many details needing adjustments—like ribbon length, boot shapes, and headpiece fastening issues—the strong wind that day blew our skirts and wigs unexpectedly, which actually added a dynamic sense to the frame. Leaning side by side against the railing with my partner, chatting about upcoming shoot plans, the skyline at the far end of the city met our gaze. This is the charm of a combo-oriented relationship to me: two characters' connection isn't just about interactions in the frame, but the shared chemistry brewed together behind the scenes.

Even as night fell and lighting gradually dimmed, I still believed this outdoor set would carry a special atmospheric sense. Before shooting, I mentally anticipated that the final images might not match the ultimate high-definition lighting of studio shoots, but the feeling of warm and cool tones interweaving in outdoor natural light, as well as the moments when wind brushes against clothes, cannot be replaced by post-processing retouching. Since this shoot stems from the grand universe of Honkai: Star Rail, I prefer capturing fleeting moments in this relaxed and free-spirited manner.

These behind-the-scenes snippets are actually just part of the official set, but I favor the authentic texture of these straight-out-of-camera raw photos—including the stone textures on the ground, the silhouettes of distant trees, and the small details of balloons swaying gently in the wind. The background tone of Amphoreus inherently carries weight and hope, so we chose to express those emotions during this chilly dusk. Although quite a few passersby stopped to watch, we stayed focused on our props and did our best to stabilize our bodies in the wind. The costume fabric chosen was rather stiff, somewhat restricting movement, but thanks to my partner helping adjust my skirt and wig during breaks, those minor shooting mishaps became today's funniest moments instead.

Thinking carefully about it, my understanding of cosplay isn't just recreating outward appearances, but immersing real-time emotions into the moment. Every time an outdoor shoot ends, I habitually check the lighting direction; luck was on our side this time—even though it was cloudy, the cloud thickness was moderate, and the brightness was just right without overexposure, making the backlit rim lighting exceptionally clear. I hope the final photos convey the atmosphere of Amphoreus standing resilient in adversity, rather than being a simple replication of a character or look. While waiting for the official set, being able to share these behind-the-scenes photos first makes me very happy, as they hold many shared memories between the two of us—whether it's stiff legs standing at the bridge end or hair blown messy by the wind and repeatedly combed back. This sense of authenticity is what I cherish preserving most.

The work itself grants us plenty of imaginative space, and through this group photo filled with everyday vibes, I feel much closer to that world. As long as you take every shutter click, every costume, and every set design seriously, the captured image will speak for itself. This is probably the unique charm of outdoor photography—gently touching fantasy against reality.
