In the pre-production of this Akebi's Sailor Uniform shoot, the most demanding aspect was undoubtedly the costume itself. The featured model hand-sewed the entire outfit, carefully adjusting the tailoring and details against the original artwork—from the striped sailor collar and dark pleated skirt to the eye-catching light blue bow on the chest. The texture of handmade sewing is indeed far superior to mass-produced garments; the fabric is crisp with just the right sheen, holding its structure perfectly under sunlight and laying a solid foundation for capturing the character's demeanor. The shoot took place at Nanshan Botanical Garden during peak cherry blossom bloom, though tourist crowds also reached their zenith. To capture a clean, pure background amidst the huge crowd, we mostly utilized gaps in the tree canopies as natural framing shields. Equipment-wise, a medium-to-telephoto lens paired with a wide aperture compressed and blurred away cluttered branches and passersby in the background, rendering the pink blossoms into soft bokeh bubbles. Choosing the afternoon for shooting was because Chongqing rarely enjoys such fine weather, and the low-angled sun created stunning backlighting. When the breeze blew through her hair, the backlight created a translucent rim light along the hair edges, enhancing that airy, dynamic sense of being lifted by spring breezes. For posing direction, rather than forcing rigid poses, we captured natural snapshot moments: looking back over the shoulder, flashing peace signs with both hands, pointing to the cheek with one finger, and a close-up holding a clear umbrella with closed eyes. The transparent umbrella played a significant role, not only adding visual translucency but also serving as a delicate accent. In terms of post-processing, the main focus was balancing the contrast between cherry blossoms and skin tones, keeping the pink sakura bright and translucent while ensuring the white Japanese uniform remained pure and luminous without looking dull or yellowed. In composition, we centered the subject to present the character's lively yet gentle demeanor in the most authentic state. Although the shooting environment was crowded and required constant searching for camera angles while waiting for background clearings, seeing every strand of backlit hair and the nuanced shadows of the uniform pleats in the final Portrait photography made it all completely worthwhile.
