This time, I'm sharing different looks from shooting the character Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion, interpreting the complex and intense personality traits behind her iconic lines. First, regarding costume preparation, we tried two different styles. The first is an off-the-shoulder white dress accented with red ribbons and a pearl necklace, perfectly suited for shooting in a vintage indoor café; using newspapers and teacups as props highlighted her usual nonchalant yet proud demeanor. The second is a classic black-and-white dress paired with black over-the-knee Stockings; against outdoor autumn fallen leaves with backlighting and sunflowers in hand, it creates a powerful visual impact.
To convey a sense of tsundere pride and confidence, both gaze and posture were deliberately honed—such as glancing back while seated against the chair back, or resting a chin gently in hand while looking at the camera, all emphasizing that sense of control. The lighting on the day of the shoot was fantastic; the warm afternoon light illuminated the wig, yielding a texture even better than expected. Especially for the texture of the black Stockings, proper lighting is essential to bring out that sheer, high-end feel. During post-processing retouching, we mainly adjusted the color atmosphere to harmonize the vintage mood of the environment while preserving authentic facial details and bright, translucent blue eyes. For this kind of classic Roleplay portrayal, balancing costume fidelity with character demeanor is essential to convey her unique charm. Across several shoots, my favorite remains this black-and-white dress and black Stockings combination; this design, blending everyday casualness with a 2D aesthetic, performed wonderfully on camera, and I hope to fully present this feeling through photography.
