For our 2024 convention appearances, I prepared multiple HoYoverse character looks spanning both Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Several consecutive days of shooting proved to be a real test of stamina, styling, and makeup. In Photo 1, the dark blue robe features a subtle jacquard pattern complemented by exquisite silver trim. To balance the silver-white wig and illuminating headpiece, I wore violet contact lenses to anchor the commanding aura. The holding angle of the cane required precise control to pull off an assertive, forward-reaching attack stance, while keeping my spine straight to project an imposing presence. Photo 2 features short black hair accented with vibrant orange highlights; the outfit includes a shoulder cape with golden line-work that enriches visual layering. When kneeling on one knee with the polearm, I had to ensure the white trousers didn't crease excessively, while engaging my arm muscles to stabilize the weapon's weight so candid action shots looked crisp and powerful—distributing leg weight was crucial on the hard convention floor. Photo 3 showcases a black-and-white patched Chinese-style ensemble, where metallic pauldrons and red tassels serve as striking focal points. Grabbing a cup of boba tea on site as an interactive prop helped dissolve overly stern distance; securing the armor clasps tightly was essential to prevent them from dropping while walking. Photo 4 presents a blue-and-white uniform set. The pairing of a pleated skirt with over-the-knee Stockings is timeless, though thigh-highs tend to slip while walking, making anti-slip skin tape indispensable. When posing with the longsword, combining a sculpted left-hand posture with a slight leg lift brought out the layered drape of the skirt; the sword prop was highly reflective, so positioning required careful avoidance of harsh glare spots. Photo 5 features long white hair paired with a Chinese mandarin collar; the cut-out totem design at the waist demanded strict posture and body line management to faithfully capture the character. The glowing card in hand, synchronized with on-site holographic rune effects and dry ice fog, required tailored shutter speed settings, alongside ongoing adjustments for smoke density and draft direction. For the purple-haired look in Photos 6 through 8, the intricate headpiece with metallic rings and tassels was exceptionally heavy, requiring numerous bobby pins anchored into the wig cap. The violet-and-white gown, adorned with gem pendants and ornate ruffles on the bodice, demanded deliberate wrist angling when unfurling the folding fan; extensive walking easily loosened the garment's ties, requiring frequent readjustments. Photo 8's final edit placed the character upon floating stone steps etched with glowing glyphs against a starry celestial backdrop—requiring spatial visualization during the live shoot and meticulous post-production communication to blend lighting edges smoothly. Lighting in convention photography zones is notoriously chaotic; choosing spots with clean overhead key light, locking down the wig with strong hairspray before heading out, and keeping touch-up makeup handy are essential to sustaining character perfection before the camera all day.
