The finished photoshoot is finally out! As my signature hero, she deserves the grandest presentation. Ever since the "Thoughts on Resisting Frost" skin concept art was revealed for Honor of Kings, I had been eagerly anticipating it, and holding the actual garment in hand did not disappoint in the least. Skipping the fluff, today I'm sharing the makeup, styling, and shooting details of this Chang'e cosplay.
Let's start with the wardrobe. While the gown appears weightless and airy, it is packed with intricate craftsmanship. The white base edged with pink accents, paired with the pair of golden winged shoulder ornaments, pushes the tactile texture to the absolute max. The oversized pink bouquet at the waist and golden yellow streamers drape gracefully with every step, creating marvelous depth. What surprised me most was the plush faux-fur stole: not only was it cozy, but it also fleshed out the upper-body silhouette nicely on camera. Detached sleeves and semi-sheer white wrap Stockings paired with clear lucite heels beautifully flattered the leg lines while preserving the character's otherworldly, ethereal fairy aura.
For hair and makeup, the pinkish-white long wig demanded extensive pre-styling, especially trimming the bangs and face-framing tendrils to hug my face naturally. The pair of fluffy animal ears perched on top heavily tested anchoring techniques—hairpins had to be hidden deeply, or the slightest movement would knock them askew. Blue contact lenses were the soul for capturing her divine demeanor; for eye makeup, I selected a sheer pink base deepening at the outer corners to elongate the eyes, toning down pure cuteness in favor of aloof elegance. Because the original 2D character leans classical, the brows were drawn slender and soft, paired with a subtle peach lip tint.
The set design also took meticulous effort. The backdrop featured wooden lattice screens and a circular moon gate, paired with cascading pink cherry blossoms and warm yellow lanterns. To match the nocturnal dreamscape of "Thoughts on Resisting Frost," we introduced purple ambient lights. The interplay of cool purple and warm amber lights effectively carved the subject out from the scenery.
During the shoot, the photographer utilized numerous low-angle perspectives to capture the floating, weightless grace of the character. For the cover shot, I held a suspended hover pose atop a transparent acrylic platform, utilizing the mirrored floor to catch reflections that doubled the visual impact of the cascading gown and trailing streamers. The third suspended standing photo also harnessed wire rigging and billowed ribbons to create dynamic momentum. Holding a round silk fan and white jade rabbit prop, I constantly calibrated my gaze before the lens, seeking that delicate equilibrium of gentleness and detached aloofness.
As someone who cosplays Chang'e frequently, this skin's costume is indeed rather hefty, but maintaining a straight posture was crucial to prevent the plush fur from weighing down my silhouette.
