[Umaru cosplay] Himouto! Umaru-chan's Daily Life at Home: How Can It Be Complete Without Chips and Cola?

When shooting this Umaru cosplay, the biggest challenge wasn't the makeup and styling, but how to strike poses inside the orange hoodie that were both delightfully lazy and adorable. To perfectly recreate that comfortable stay-at-home feeling of Himouto! Umaru-chan, we specifically found a vintage Japanese room with tatami mats. The warm yellow lighting casting over the wooden furniture instantly set the perfect mood. Slipping into that fluffy orange hamster hoodie and holding the giant cola bottle, I felt myself relax completely, instantly slipping into character. A lot of thought went into the makeup: large-diameter circle contact lenses and false eyelashes were the finishing touches, and the area and placement of the blush were carefully planned to capture that soft, moe charm from the original 2D art. Since we used a wide-angle lens for this shoot, low-angle and upward compositions created a very strong sense of interaction. For example, reaching out a hand for potato chips or passing over cola makes viewers feel like they are experiencing Umaru acting spoiled up close. To capture the moment of drinking cola just right, we tried several times. Holding a large bottle of cola for a long time actually makes your arms tired, and tilting your head back while keeping your facial expression intact—plus managing the soda carbonation—definitely required some finesse. Fortunately, the photographer had great snapshot timing and caught the perfect shot. Besides cute frontal shots, high-angle downward compositions were also incredibly charming; looking up at the lens made my silhouette look exceptionally petite. The fabric of the outfit was very comfortable, making soft rustling sounds when walking around the room, feeling even more like a little hamster. During shooting breaks, I shared the chips with friends while using them as props. The plum wine by the table, vintage radio, and dried flowers all added bonus points to the composition. Using clean, warm tones made the colors look just like being at home at dusk. All these angle and detail adjustments were made to give viewers the most intuitive visual experience of a himouto. The photographer was very patient; we constantly discussed how to make the movements feel natural rather than overly staged. Since Umaru embodies an uninhibited and completely unguarded state, candid moments of zoning out or daydreaming actually fit the essence of the work best, so we took several more candid shots. Seeing the final results made all the effort feel worthwhile. As long as that adorable, lazy vibe was conveyed properly, this shoot was a complete success, truly capturing Cute girl daily life.
