The event photos from the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition are finally retouched and ready for this Event photo delivery. This time I presented Manaka Laala from PriPara; once the entire outfit was fully worn on site, it definitely turned heads!
First, let's talk about the details of this stage performance outfit. With white as the primary color tone, complemented by pink and yellow ruffles and skirt flares, the visual impact is exceptionally bright and cheerful. The giant pink bow across the chest is the visual centerpiece, accented with a silver treble clef metal charm in the center that immediately highlights the character's idol identity. The skirt is a multi-layered puffy flare skirt: the outermost layer is vivid yellow, sandwiching a pink-and-white striped layer in the middle, lined with white lace underneath. When walking, the rich layering of the skirt flows beautifully. There is also a yellow semi-translucent train draped in the back, which billows gracefully in photos, though you have to be careful not to step on it.
As for the hair, this light-purple long straight wig required meticulous prep beforehand. The blunt bangs were trimmed to flatter my face shape, and because the hair ends are so long, they easily got ruffled by the breeze outdoors, requiring combing every once in a while. The oversized pink ribbon headpiece on top was reinforced with bobby pins to keep it from slipping off while walking around. For makeup, blue contact lenses are the very soul of the character, paired with pink-peach blush and soft pink lip tint to best recreate the aura of an energetic maiden. Eyelashes were lengthened in the eye makeup to make the eyes appear rounder and more expressive.
We scheduled the shoot for the late afternoon, where the setting sun's side-backlighting illuminated the purple wig, tracing a lovely halo along the edges. The location was set along a waterfront stone pathway, with distant city high-rises in the background; blending natural golden-hour light with the urban skyline created a pleasing color contrast.
In terms of pose design, I drew inspiration from the character's bubbly stage presence—such as making cat-paw gestures with both hands, tilting my head toward the camera, or pinching the skirt hem while turning sideways. Photo 3 features a full-body frontal standing pose, holding the skirt hem with hands hanging naturally; this angle completely showcases the costume's silhouette, the over-the-knee White stockings, and the pink platform heels. Standing on the stone pavement in platform heels for an extended period to nail these full-body shots left my calf muscles quite taut. However, seeing the pink ribbon straps on the White stockings, the yellow bow accents on the toes, and the crisp pleats of the skirt clearly rendered in the final images made all the effort worthwhile.
The temperature on convention day wasn't low, and because the garment fabric is relatively substantial combined with the heavy wig, it felt quite warm. Convention photography differs greatly from studio shoots, requiring rapid on-site adjustments to light and backdrops. The photographer captured numerous candid dynamic moments; compared to static poses, expressions that flow naturally while walking often carry much more infectious charm. From the wardrobe styling to the wig craftsmanship, every detail of this Manaka Laala cosplay aimed to honor the original character design in PriPara, hoping to convey all the passion and sparkle she radiates on stage.
