When shooting this set of Barbara Cosplay, to fit the theme of summer and water, we specially picked a location where plenty of water splash special effects could be added. The overall outfit features blue and white as the primary color scheme, paired with a giant blue-and-white inflatable ring prop, along with that yellow rubber duck at the waist, presenting a very refreshing summer vacation feel.
For this look, the wig was a golden twin-tail style, with detailed braids and hair accessories on top and sides. To recreate the anime-style dynamic motion from figures and official artwork, the bangs and sideburns were specifically fine-tuned. Wearing this White thigh-highs outfit with high-heeled sandals made the shoot surprisingly physical. The heels were quite thin, and because the floor was somewhat slippery from simulating water splashes, leaning back slightly when doing a one-handed hand-on-hip pose was necessary to avoid slipping. However, these wearing details—such as thigh straps and the small yellow flower decorations on the shoes—rendered very nicely on camera.
The photographer and post-production artist I collaborated with this time was Teacher Yinglong. When discussing ideas, we felt that simply standing dryly in front of a backdrop would lack atmospheric depth. Therefore, we deliberately chose an industrial-style parking lot as the background, using high-speed shutter capture and post-processing compositing to splash real water around the inflatable ring. Regarding light usage, a strong rim light from above illuminated hair strands, paired with lens flares and bokeh in the foreground so the entire composition wouldn't look dull or rigid.
I remember when preparing props, holding that inflatable ring was actually quite a test for pose design. Holding it too high would block the cross knot and neckline on the outfit, while holding it too low would make the composition feel bottom-heavy. Ultimately, I chose to hold it by my waist side, paired with a right-hand-on-hip standing pose, which showcased the character's body curves while fully exposing the sandals and legs for an extended visual feel. At the same time, the tilted angle of the ring formed a harmonious visual balance with the standing posture.
The most important aspect of doing a Barbara Cosplay is capturing that bright and cheerful nature. Standing before the camera, simply thinking "I'm getting ready to bring energy to everyone around me" naturally softens and relaxes one's facial expression. This youthful vigor isn't built solely by piling on costumes, but comes from an inner mindset. Looking back at this photo set, the White thigh-highs outfit paired with heels was showcased well, and the character's lively energy wasn't overwhelmed by the large prop size. From costume fidelity and prop shapes to background atmosphere and post-processed water splashes, every step worked together smoothly, leaving no major regrets for this Summer water element special set.
