When stepping out today, the weather forecast still predicted bright sunshine. Yet right after entering the greenhouse, before we could even set up the reflector, the sky changed completely outside—the blazing sun was instantly swallowed by dark clouds, followed immediately by a heavy downpour. This sultry, humid greenhouse environment inside the botanical garden was truly a major test for makeup endurance. Today's feature was Minami Kotori's Maid outfit. To stay faithful to the character's personality, I had been practicing that energetic, healing smile in the mirror, wanting to express her lively and adorable charm. But truthfully, after braving the scorching sun on the way here and getting trapped in the greenhouse by the storm with nowhere to go, I simply couldn't pull it off! No matter how hard I tried to hype myself up, the muscles on my face betrayed sheer exhaustion, making forced cheerfulness utterly impossible.

You can probably tell from the final photos that my gaze carries a hint of helpless resignation. When taking photos, I have a stubborn habit of unconsciously turning my left profile toward the lens because I feel the facial lines look smoother on that side. Today was no exception; reviewing the camera preview, almost every shot shared that familiar angle. Even though the photographer kept encouraging me to switch angles and I frantically reminded myself internally to turn around, once the shooting rhythm began, muscle memory instinctively reverted to my default stance. Next time, I must push myself to experiment with frontal and right-profile shots to break out of this comfort zone and discover different facets of expression.

Wardrobe-wise, while this black-and-white Maid outfit looks exceptionally sweet and well-behaved, wearing it inside a greenhouse was stiflingly warm. The black long sleeves, layered white lace ruffled collar, and the dark blue bow across the chest are exquisitely detailed, yet keeping composure in such muggy heat was a genuine mental challenge. To avoid messing up the wig styling, I kept my upper body as steady as possible, holding an orange or small potted plant as subtle props while aligning with the lush green foliage and wooden window frames in the background to find flattering lighting angles. The mist on the glass and water droplets clinging to the plants turned out to be pleasant surprises, adding a lovely sense of transparency to the scene. Throughout this Photography daily life experience, I tried my best to steady my breathing and tap into professional focus to channel the character. Even if the weather failed to cooperate, as a coser, ensuring the visual quality of the output remains essential.

Heartfelt thanks go to photographer and retoucher @ivory tower for steadily capturing these frames in such adverse weather, and for using post-processing color grading to transform what was a gloomy storm into a warm, vintage aesthetic. Although weather conditions and my own expression management left a few small regrets, it was an invaluable learning curve. For upcoming shoots, I'll train my expression management more thoroughly beforehand, overcome my left-profile fixation, and strive to deliver presentations from a wider variety of angles.
