[Chisa cosplay] Dark Maid Head in Wuthering Waves, ChinaJoy Onsite Journal

This dark Gothic style Maid outfit look for Chisa from Wuthering Waves, paired with her iconic red eyes and long straight black hair, was my primary featured style during full attendance at ChinaJoy. The entire outfit revolves around black, white, and red as the main visual palette, featuring heavy use of ruffles, layered lace, and black-red spliced textures on the skirt, complemented by a striking red neck bow and white gloves to faithfully recreate the character's 3D presence. Special thanks to @爪爪匣子 for providing this costume—not only do the fabric choices fit the theme perfectly, but the delicate metal embellishments on the chest are also beautifully accented.

For props, I picked the signature red cross long-handled weapon alongside a tiny dessert tray. Holding the heavy greatsword in my right hand and lifting a cake with my left, this contrast between combat posture and daily sweetness captures the true essence of Chisa's design. To maintain steady balance in front of the lens, I fine-tuned my arm engagement angles repeatedly during the shoot, ensuring the weapon didn't look clunky while keeping the cake natural and delicate. If you ran into me onsite and snagged a small gift using the secret phrase "Cake at 180cm", you likely felt the joy of this contrast cuteness brought to life.

The shooting location was an indoor studio set against sprawling white sheer curtains and classical European Roman pillars. Pure white environments easily blow out highlights, especially when white sheer drapes are paired with white thigh-high socks, posing a real test for dynamic range. Fortunately, we recorded using a full-frame Nikon camera throughout; its high resolution and dynamic range kept dark shadow details of the black maid outfit, lace textures, and smooth stocking fabric entirely intact. The standing posture in P1 is my favorite composition—standing cross-legged while props in both hands echo vertically, paired with vintage black round-toe leather shoes adorned with tiny bells, drawing the visual focus squarely onto the character. The sharp contrast between white socks and the black skirt is particularly eye-catching.

Shooting schedules during ChinaJoy are usually packed tight, so finding a quiet corner between convention halls to polish these shots with props and lighting was no easy feat. Cool indoor soft lighting rendered skin tones pale and clear, creating a subtle warm-cool contrast with red eyeshadow. In execution, I selected P1 as the main cover photo because it showcases both the weapon and dessert props simultaneously while capturing a gallant standing posture that fits Chisa's character persona.

Whenever cosplaying a new character, we strive not only for accuracy in costume details, but more importantly, for capturing specific expressions and emotional nuance. Chisa's cool yet subtle anime daily-life atmosphere was beautifully interpreted in this shoot. The metallic reflections on props, airiness of white sheer curtains, and drape of the maid skirt melded together into a complete visual narrative in this space. For dark Gothic style characters, compositions need breathing room so character silhouettes aren't swallowed by busy backdrops; the white pillars and sheer drapes here were ideal, providing depth without stealing the spotlight.
