Dug out this set of Nahida Cosplay shot two years ago, and just took advantage of this time node to re-edit the post-processing, so it can finally be released to breathe some fresh air.
When I first took on this Anime-style photo set, the first thing that came to mind was to find a forest scene that could perfectly match the character's temperament. Because Nahida is the deity representing the Dendro element and wisdom in Genshin Impact, elegant and natural yet carrying a touch of otherworldly detachment, this kind of woodland covered with fallen leaves and dappled tree shadows became the top choice. When scouting the location back then, it happened to catch the afternoon slanting sun filtering through the treetops; that natural backlighting created an atmosphere tailored perfectly for this set of photos.
When I first got the cosplay costume, the first impression was lightweight and exquisite. This dress uses white and light green as the main color palette, adorned with many design details of metallic textures and hollowed-out leaves, making it not heavy to wear. To fit the character, I specially treated the layering of the wig to give the hair strands a soft silvery-white luster, and carefully adjusted the positions of the headwear and earrings to ensure enough restoration under outdoor light and shadow. Especially the green Aranara plush doll cradled in my hand—it serves as the emotional link of the entire photo. Holding it in the forest felt as if I were truly searching for those little elves hidden in tree hollows and grass bushes.
In terms of the shoot's composition and camera positioning, the photographer knew very well how to utilize the foreground to create layers. Just like the first image of this set, the large area of foreground blur on the left and bottom guides the viewer's gaze directly onto me standing in the sunshine within the forest. Combined with the thick layer of golden fallen leaves on the ground and the vines and tree stumps in the back, the perspective of the entire photo instantly opens up. During the re-editing post-processing, I readjusted the brightness of the colors, slightly compressing the warm yellow of the highlights while brightening the shadows to let those obscured branch textures present more translucently. The overall color tone leans more towards a vintage oil painting texture, possessing both a fairytale color tendency and maintaining the forest's own vitality.
Doing this kind of highly-restored cosplay photography in a forest exterior actually places very high demands on physical stamina and expression management. When weaving through the woods, one needs to carefully avoid tree roots that could trip you up, while also maintaining a graceful posture. That gaze looking up while standing beside a tree was actually watching the dynamic instant of light spilling through the leaf gaps; back then, I was genuinely thinking whether the Aranaras were truly hiding behind these trees, stealing glances at me.
Two years ago, I might have been a bit green regarding post-production processing, but that sense of immersion and passion during the shoot back then was the most authentic. This re-editing is not just to cater to current aesthetics, but more to truly preserve that initial image of the Dendro Archon that perfectly fits this patch of woods in my mind. In this re-edited photo, there is no piling up of complex techniques, only light, shadow, and nature, as well as the Dendro Archon Nahida pausing in the quietest corner of the forest.
