[Nero Cosplay] Fate/Grand Order FES 2025 Multi-Character Appearances and Photo Retouching Routine

The aftereffects of Fate/Grand Order FES 2025 are still lingering, most evident in the thousands of raw shots taking up my hard drive. Cleaning out the storage feels like a long road to paying off creative debt, and now it's finally time for the photo retouching phase. The convention experience was fantastic—not only did I get to shoot with the wonderful Master Xiatian, but I also completed the challenge of portraying multiple characters, making it an extraordinarily fulfilling trip.

In cosplay, preparing gear and choosing venues often decide half the battle. Because this shoot involved vastly different characters—Nero, the Count, BB, Aoko, and Tiamat—the fabric weights and prop heft gave me an advance taste of weight training. Tiamat's imposing, massive horns were especially striking on camera, yet maneuvering through crowded convention halls was a true workout, nearly bumping into exhibition booths several times. Meanwhile, other looks—such as Nero's crimson ensemble and the Count's dark trench coat—demanded distinct lighting strategies to bring out their unique vibes across different scenes.

Speaking of the shoot, as an active cosplayer attending conventions, chaotic ambient lighting is always the biggest headache. Diffuse ceiling light mixed with stage spotlights often triggers harsh contrast or blown-out highlights. The best way to manage this light is nailing exposure compensation, utilizing telephoto compression to crop out cluttered crowds, or placing handheld props and phone screens in the foreground to create a frame-within-a-frame depth. Lighting shifted rapidly on-site, making candid capture timing critical and requiring tight synergy with the photographer. I was particularly pleased with some convention installations, such as iconic weapon sculptures, which grounded these beloved characters in real physical space to give the photos substantial presence.

Costumes, props, and shooting are one part of the equation, but post-production is where the real heavy lifting begins. Back home facing hundreds of raw frames, the most demanding task is unifying color palettes. Because each character carries a different mood, color temperature and tint must be recalibrated while preserving the authentic sheen of metallic accessories under lighting. To match the true convention ambiance, messy background crowds also had to be cleaned up to let the subjects stand out. My recent daily routine has been working by day and retouching by night; watching vivid images take shape under my fingertips blends exhaustion with immense accomplishment—a creative debt well worth paying.

Looking back, putting heart and soul into character recreation and documenting it through the lens is what keeps me going in the cosplay community. Whether it's a crimson dress, a dark trench coat, or blue-purple styling, each character possesses a distinct soul. Spending hours interpreting their expressions, movements, and the exact curve of a smile is far more than physical labor—it's complete creative immersion.
