[Altria cosplay] Fate/Grand Order Maiden Knight & White Horse Location Shoot

This outdoor session centered on Altria from Fate/Grand Order, aiming to capture an authentic, knightly location shoot. Having previously shot this attire mostly in indoor studios or simple stages, securing access to an equestrian ranch offered the perfect chance to fuse the Maiden knight concept with riding motifs. Modeling as myself (Jianbing Yao Shuangdan), I've long adored Altria and sought to faithfully channel her cool, resolute poise in an open-air setting.

Pre-production was far more intricate than anticipated. The wardrobe featured her classic white sleeveless dress accented by bold black line trims, with black ribbons gracing the collar and detached sleeves providing sharp contrast. To unify the look, I wore opaque white tights—White stockings—paired with black buckled leather dress shoes. Because interacting closely with the steed in an expansive outdoor ranch relied purely on natural daylight, I specifically requested the photographer shoot from lower angles, using telephoto compression to clean up background clutter.

Approaching the white steed initially brought genuine trepidation. Horses are exceptionally perceptive; human anxiety quickly translates into equine agitation. The close-up in the first shot emerged only after nearly thirty minutes of mutual acclimation. Fitted with a black halter, the horse calmed down as I rested one hand gently along its crest while guiding the lead rope with the other. Late-afternoon sun filtered in from behind, merging the golden sheen of the blonde wig seamlessly with the steed's white mane.

The second full-body frame was captured before open pastures and a timber cabin. To echo the horse's posture, I leaned my center of gravity slightly forward, steering the horse to lower its head gently. Embodying a legendary knight, I intentionally discarded fragile postures in favor of commanding composure at the reins. Turning across the grass, the geometric cut of the black-and-white dress created crisp, tailored lines, with the White stockings elongating bodily proportions to lend the silhouette an upright, noble stance.

Ultimately, shooting on location differs vastly from controlled studio setups due to unpredictable variables—gusts of wind, animal temperament, and shifting outdoor light ratios. Preserving hair and makeup required reapplying hairspray and parting the bangs after every angle change. Because pure white fabric easily blows out under harsh sun, adjusting ISO and shutter speed alongside drifting clouds was essential. Fortunately, the finished cuts captured the essence of a real knight's journey, with the steed cooperating remarkably well, completing a deeply fulfilling outdoor shoot.
