Finally captured this Justice Online cosplay project I had been preparing for at the Guangzhou CICF Expo. I specifically prepared this look with beast-head waist accessories and a silver-blue gradient wig; the texture is quite heavy and exquisite. On-site, I used the Sony Ξ±7 IV paired with the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II lens; this combination performed very stably in the complex lighting environment of the indoor exhibition hall. To bring out the layers of the overall dark-toned costume and the flashy red flame patterns, I used Zhiyun Z3 and Z5 fill lights throughout the session for Photography lighting tips. The offline expo was crowded, but using portable lighting equipment allowed for quick focusing on the subject, avoiding the messy overhead lighting of the venue. Actually, the most eye-catching details of this outfit are the red-gold dragon-head mask at the waist and the dangling metal chains, as well as the semi-transparent mesh patchwork on the chest. With supplementary face lighting, the transition between highlights and shadows appears exceptionally three-dimensional. I specifically chose a background with Chinese-style screens and birdcage floral art, creating a strong Chinese-style cosplay atmosphere. Due to limited space, the photographer utilized the silhouettes of the furniture and the color contrast of the flowers to perfectly highlight the gorgeous aura of the entire styling. Convention photos often seem rushed due to time constraints, but with portable lighting equipment and solid photographic gear, we managed to restore the design details of the costume, props, and makeup as much as possible. Looking at the results on the camera screen, everyone's on-site performance was very cooperative. From early conception to the expo execution, besides dealing with the complex on-site factors, the most important thing was controlling light and shadow during shooting. Only basic color grading was done in post-production; it's basically "what you see is what you get" in terms of texture. Being able to take photos I'm satisfied with on-site makes all the early preparations worth it. I hope to interpret more possibilities for this type of ancient fantasy styling in richer settings in the future.
