The Convention photos for this dusty-pink sailor-collared Academic style uniform are finally ready! Riding the fast-paced energy of Firefly Con, I'm excited to share this shooting log featuring Waguri Kaoruko cosplay and Hoshina Subaru cosplay.
Regarding the outfit coordination, considerable thought went into fabric selection and tailoring. The dusty-pink fabric of the top features a smooth drape, preventing the sailor collar from looking overly puffy. The width of the white sailor collar's trim and the knotting of the black ribbon at the neckline were adjusted repeatedly to hit the right balance. The skirt pleats were pressed crisp and structured, which, paired with the black stripe along the hem, visually lengthened proportions. To capture a genuine student feel, I paired black tights with loafers—these grounded, everyday details brought the look much closer to the original atmosphere of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity.
The wig and contact lenses were crucial focus points. To match character traits, I wore long purple wavy hair paired with color-matched custom contacts, while my cosplay partner used long light greyish-blue hair. Under the intense floor lights of the venue, both hair sheen and lens color payoff performed wonderfully. Despite the convention hall being crowded and humid, the breathable mesh cap prevented any noticeable heaviness throughout the day.
The shooting process tested our coordination far more than expected. Due to complex lighting overhead—where round hall lights created harsh hot spots—we avoided direct overhead lighting, seeking out areas with softer, diffused light for candid shots. The photographer utilized a wide aperture to blur the ceiling ring lights and bustling crowds into lovely bokeh spots, emphasizing our main silhouettes. This clash between industrial hall aesthetics and high school uniform style gave the final edits a sleek modern touch.
For posing, we referenced various everyday interaction scenarios, designing combinations of standing, leaning, and back-to-back poses. For instance, the solo close-up holding the collar with one hand and a bag with the other focused on conveying the character's reserved demeanor through subtle, natural movements. Meanwhile, duo photos required tight synchronization in positioning, eye contact, and hand placement. Candid moments capturing subtle eye contact or soft physical touches were kept as natural as possible to avoid a stiff, overly posed look.
The event atmosphere was buzzing with activity, surrounded by meticulously dressed fans. Feeling this shared passion with fellow enthusiasts is always deeply rewarding. Though the shoot was fast-paced and intense, the final results truly did justice to the ensemble. Packing the outfit took up quite a bit of space—especially the thick, pleated skirt—but its graceful drape when worn made every bit of effort worthwhile. On the logistics side, we found a quieter corridor between convention rushes to change and touch up, keeping the entire workflow smooth.
Overall, these convention photo memories carry so many vibrant moments from the venue. From costume and prop details to seamless creative collaboration, every piece formed an indispensable part of this shoot. I hope the dedicated atmosphere conveyed in these photos allows everyone to feel the genuine quality embedded in this character design.
