Jumpy Dumpy! Finally, I've completed the perfect puzzle of Klee's equipment this time. Actually, cosplaying Klee from Genshin Impact has quite a lot of challenges. First is this iconic red hat. To avoid looking cheap, I specially chose a relatively stiff-textured fabric. The black brim and red main body are seamlessly stitched together, and the golden four-leaf clover embroidery on top was stitched stitch by stitch. The brass-colored small badge on the side and the white feather accessory are also things I searched for a long time to gather. If the hat's shape isn't crisp, the proportion of the entire head would look very strange, so I even added internal support.
Regarding the wig, platinum-blonde long straight hair can easily look like plastic if not styled well. When trimming, I deliberately cut layers into the bangs and sideburns, fixing them on both sides of the cheeks with styling spray. This not only better flatters the face shape, but also makes the elf ear props look more natural. For the elf ears, I used skin wax for the edge transition, spending quite a lot of time before the shoot to ensure high enough adhesion to the skin.
The focus of the makeup is undoubtedly the eyes. To match Klee's innocent yet slightly mischievous gaze, I wore bright red contact lenses. In the eye makeup department, lower eyelid extension was drawn quite prominently, paired with thick yet distinct individual false eyelashes to enlarge the eye shape. The base makeup maintained a relatively clear and translucent feel, and the lips used a high-gloss bright red lip glaze. The overall makeup aims for that energetic and vibrant feel.
There are truly so many details in the costume. For that off-white scarf, I compared the brown geometric patterns on it with the original artwork for a long time, and the colors had to be matched precisely. The red and brown color blocking of the jacket has a certain thickness and texture. The brown suede gloves on both hands not only add a sense of bulkiness but also make the hands look cuter when moving. The gloves actually affect flexibility a lot; to avoid looking too stiff in front of the camera, I specifically practiced various gripping and heart-shaped hand poses while wearing them before the shoot.
The biggest prop for this shoot is this huge Jumpy Dumpy plush doll. Holding it naturally is actually quite a hassle; it requires adjusting the center of gravity while keeping the arm posture stretched and relaxed. The shooting process was very interesting—a friend's cockatiel even flew over and landed on my shoulder. That scene really looked like Klee encountering a small animal in the wild, full of vitality.
For this version of the cosplay, I tried my best to obsess over every detail—from the texture of the clothing to the color rendering of the makeup, and the texture of the props. I hope to vividly restore the Spark Knight from 2D into the 3D world. Every time I shoot Genshin Impact, it feels like embarking on a new adventure, and bringing Klee into the real world was the happiest thing for me this time. The lighting for the entire shoot also aimed to be bright and clear to highlight the character's sunny traits.
