The convention photos from CICF Guangzhou Comic Convention are finally sorted out! It was actually super bustling on-site, but I managed to find a corner near a translucent glass curtain wall with good lighting to finish shooting this set of Maid Soda cosplay photos. In Goddess of Victory: Nikke, this outfit represents a capable and playful cleaning maid, so the bright green long-handled mop carried along became the core prop. As for the attire itself, the black-and-white maid outfit combines white frilled tailoring, with the collar's white bow and yellow accent decorations creating distinct layering. The waist belt features a rather unique design: a bright yellow caution-tape ring plus a black corset adds a lot of mechanical feel and light industrial style to the originally gentle maid dress. Beneath the black skirt's lower hem, a matching yellow inner lining peeks through; paired with white thick tights and black retro chunky-heeled Mary Janes, this Maid outfit cosplay looks extremely photogenic whether in standing or sitting poses.
The twin-tail wig selected a light yellow-green hue with a fluorescent sheen; the gloss at hair ends looked great, appearing very translucent under natural light. Hair accessories specifically featured white lace borders, black bows, and yellow hairbands, keeping overall harmony with the black, yellow, and white color scheme of the outfit.
During shooting, the main goal was to convey the character's lively and agile feel. For example, sitting on the yellow wooden bench with legs naturally crossed or one leg bent—the white tights combined with shoe textures stretched leg proportions beautifully; in squatting poses, thigh harness strap designs displayed multi-angle layered details. Maintaining relaxed, playful facial expressions and natural body posture is what I feel best restores the character's spirit.
Because these are Convention photos taken on location, ambient light was more complex than expected. Luckily, diffuse light coming through the hall's glass windows made skin tones look very natural, and the white tights section wasn't overexposed. Running or jumping with the mop created lovely skirt fluffiness and hair-tip swaying motion; I was quite pleased with several dynamic snapshots captured.
This outfit has many subtle details requiring attention, such as the elasticity of lace trimming and sleeve covers—ensuring comfortable movement while remaining fitted during large motions. Furthermore, holding the mop without tripping others while constantly lifting the skirt hem to prevent stepping on it was quite a test of core and arm strength. Though a bit tiring, the overall visual results were totally worth it. Wearing this costume at a massive event like CICF Guangzhou Comic Convention, I was often recognized by fellow fans calling out the character name, which provides tremendous motivation for any cosplayer.
To be honest, when shooting lively characters like Maid Soda, the hardest part isn't posing, but controlling wig heaviness and keeping clothing neat during fast movements. Poses like raising arms or lifting legs shown in photos can easily lose balance if center-of-gravity shifts slightly. To present perfect line proportions, those poses were adjusted repeatedly before clicking the shutter. Behind every seemingly casual convention photo lies a combined result of controlling expression, angle, light, and wind-blown hair strands.
When arranging the layout post-shoot, I deliberately picked photos containing different actions: relaxing while seated, interactive standing, and a final dynamic jump. Combined together, they chain into a lively complete short story. The yellow-black prop box and bench didn't steal the spotlight in the frame, but formed a clever visual echo with yellow caution stripes on the clothes. The entire set didn't chase razor-sharp studio polish, but retained authentic light and texture inside the hall along with a touch of atmospheric green light, which I feel holds more genuine, unpretentious commemorative meaning for convention photos.
